Generally (but probably not always) when it says "in screening" it means it has gone to where others are able to vote yay or nay on it. Usually (but probably not always) if the screeners deem it unfit to begin with, you get the reject notice within a couple of hours or so and it never makes it to that highly coveted and terribly teasing "in screening" status.
Some of us have decided that just making it to "in screening" is good enough, seeing as how we (OK, *I*) haven't had anything published for half a year. |
Thanks! I was thinking that I might actually be at that magic screening stage! Other photos seemed to be rejected immediately -- so this seemed a good sign! (well, good that it wasn't rejected immediately. I did have one that made it to the screening stage and then rejected. I just forgot to check back for a couple of days, so I never got to see the "in screening" message.
I really doubt they'll take it -- but it was fun making it this far!
btw, how long does it usually stay in screening?

It seems like my longest was 6 or 7 nerve-racking days. It's been a while since I've submitted. Hope yours gets through. It's a great feeling!

Good luck Wendy! Hope you make it!
The 2 I've entered have made it to screening, but both were rejected after a few days.

Apparently it is a bug in the code that is currently being rewritten - still not sure if my latest actually got published though. |
it did. Congrats Paul, you are on a roll - two in quick succession! |

Three rejected over the last 2 weeks. Didn't like my Disney Concert Hall series!

hehe--and I thought i might throw one of my Disney pics at 1x until I read your post.
my 'solitude' entry was rejected after several days. Funny, the three comments all related to the same niggling problem I had with the image. In my attempt to darken the sky and lighten the rocks, the perimeter of the rocks was too dark IMO. Apparently the screening public at 1x were on to something. I'll try again in another few months... |

It's been weeks since I posted there but missed on this one. It was tough getting a good angle on this shot...or one that I thought would make it stand out compositionally. Didn't quite hit the mark effectively. |

Thought I would share this here. I have had many rejects over at 1x....but also have had my fair share of published images. I believe the quality on that site is incredible. Well, I am not the only one who thinks so. I just received an e-mail from National Geographic regarding one of my images they would like to publish in a childrens book. The editor told me that he and his staff like to "spend hours looking at all the great photographs on 1x". How awesome is that. They frequent the site often and find the work inspiring. So there is hope for us all. Keep submitting those images....and keep trying even if you get rejected.
Here is the e-mail:
I'm a photo editor at National Geographic Children's publishing, and we are interested in possibly using your 'super boy' shot on 1x in a children's book we are putting together. Is there any way you might be able to contact me directly?
I'm at kxxxxx@ngs.org and my phone number is 202-xxx-xxxx.
This is not a hoax. We're often mining these kinds of sites for good images.
Thank you for your time!
Best-
Kxxxxxx Axxxxxxx
Thought I would blot out the name and phone number just to be safe. I did think it was a hoax, so I looked up her name on the web. Not a hoax...I called and spoke to a really nice man in the children's division. |

Jennifer, that is absolutely wonderful. Many congratulations. I remember also one person on 1x had an image used by Apple for their screen savers, good things do happen. |

Didn't think this had a chance but I find it captivating. Did make it to screening. I originally made this for the Bizarrechitecture challenge, but ultimately decided it looked like an observatory. Nothing bizarre about it. |

my fine art entry is still in screening. 24 hrs now, so it's not been dismissed out of hand. Let's see. |

And yes, of course, my fine art entry was not published. What a surprise. Not. |

I was going to say, you win some you lose some, but in the case of my participation on 1x that would not be true. I have yet to get anything published. |

I stopped trying. They don't like the stuff I do.

It just goes to prove that what DPC likes is not necessarily what others like and vice versa. I thought for sure your shot would be accepted though. Now I'm even less confident that the few images that I've prepared for 1x are not going to make it, but I'll try anyways. |

Even more interestingly, the JUDGES in the juried part of the Fine Arts challenge thought Salmiakki's image worthy of an honorable mention: so it had both popular appeal and whatever-else-you-call-it appeal, and it still didn't pass muster at 1x.

Recall that one of the judges in the Fine Arts challenge is also a 1x screener. |
