Ya know......maybe that'd be a cool thing. From the pool of images that you pick, you must select three judges from that pool of photogs that you have a majority vote for as acceptable to judge y'all's images. Or something like that.
As long as it's all with good-spirited intent. |
What other kind of intent would it be???? goofball!

nope -- I'd say open it up to all competitors. One long thread discussing the judge's entries with a vote tally at the beginning for when people officially tender they vote. I think the discussion would be great!

This stuff is all so subjective and I think too many people are way wrapped up in numbers, scores, placing etc. which is so, contrary to Art in the first place. This stuff is all good and fun but don't overdue it and don't place such a high premium on such trivial things.
Personally, I think a discussion that would be inclusive of all the entries in total would be more productive. That doesn't mean discuss every entry but offer up thoughts on whatever moved you or didn't. Also keep in mind what we're discussing are images that were shot within a small time frame of one week whereas the images offered as examples in all the threads were done with a lot of dedication taken over years of time. |

I'd like to second these thoughts.
This week has been, for me, the first time in a long time that I've actually enjoyed spending time at DPC. I think the discussions that have sprung out of this challenge, both in public and in private, are really quite beautiful. It would be fantastic to continue them.
Steve's reminder to keep in mind that these are images made in a very, very short time period is very important I think. A challenge like this is like telling someone, "Make art, now! Come on, make it now! Right now!" That can work, but it often doesn't, and it certainly wouldn't work for a large group like this. Oh well :) |

I don't know what my score is because I always leave it off, but I've gotten some really good comments that lead me to believe people spent some time looking around in the image and interpreting it. To me, that's what it's all about. |

My score is pretty low but I've gotten a lot of great comments. At least I know my shot is evoking some sort of response. |

Well, heck! That's easy!
We just start a thread and call it "Fine Art Challenge Entries Discussion" when it's over. |

ROFLMAO!!!
Coming from the absolute wizard of the phenomenal, spur-of-the-moment, spontaneous street shot I almost hurt myself laughing.
If I had to pick one person whose vision I'd most like to emulate, it'd be your uncanny ability to capture that fleeting glimpse that you do so well that I'd want to have.
The only reason that I had something to enter was 'cause I just "went with it" when I was out shooting. There was no intent behind my shot, it was a strictly visceral thing that just happened to express who I am to a certain extent, that I was able to enter it into this challenge. If I think, I don't get feeling.....when I get feeling, it doesn't necessarily conform. I'm all about luck if I get something that really works.
Really and truly, I have been the happier with this entry than any other entry in a long time. And it's being really well received according to the comments. I actually dreaded this challenge 'cause I couldn't think of something that defined my artistic skills. That was the problem. When I wasn't thinking about it, it happened for me.
ETA, Duh, Jeb!

Truth be told and I've said this many times before, some weeks I don't see nuthin. There's not a shot or even a click of the shutter worth while. Hey but if you've struck something internal, go for it and see where it takes you. IMHO I'd say screw the scores because what's inside you doesn't always fit the Challenge.
Did I mention yet, that I totally hate my entry...lolololol. Just another one of those weeks, I guess.

eta: The way I shoot needs to be organic. The minute I think "Challenge" or have pre-conceived things renting space in my head is the moment it dies. FWIW.
