Revisited some of the scores I gave and did a bit more commenting. Had lots of home improvements to do this weekend so didn't comment as much as I would have liked:

You have rated 187 of 187 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 33 images (18%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.6578.

It's been really good to have been part of this though.

You have rated 187 of 187 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 65 images (35%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.2299.

Amazing. My average score given is usually around 5.4. I found so much to like in this challenge. Three tens in one challenge -- that's unheard of from me. I'll try to add some more comments later...

I second this wholeheartedly! Totally. To me there really is no other way to go about it. And for making pictures it's the same, do you like what you're doing, do you like your photograph? It's that simple.

I greatly appreciate all the comments in this challenge. Both the positive and negative comments really highlight what a wide variety of views we have on this site. It is wonderful gaining some insight as to what works and what doesn't in this particular challenge. I usually cherry-pick photos after a challenge and read their comments, but I think I'm going to go through every photo and read each comment. I think it would be an enlightening experience.

Thanks, Alan!!! That's quite the task. Thanks to the rest of you who have commented so generously as well! I quite enjoy when the talent here at DPC really goes to work on a challenge, both shooting for it and assessing it. That's what makes this place work.

Yea, what she said about you-all talented folk..

What an interesting way of looking at it! I agree 100% -- well, 98%. I have given high points before to things that I didn't like, but still thought impressive, because it made a big impression on me -- positive or negative.

But you're right, it should be what works for you -- technicals are so unimportant in this challenge.

Jiminso, Why not take another look at the 5 & 6's...I want a comment, too! Just joking!
Actually, I have 17!! comments. I don't remember ever getting this many comments on an enty except when I ribboned. No chance of that this time, though. Still scoring below 6.

Way to go on commenting so many.
03/14/2010 10:00:47 AM · #13
Well I think I am done with my commenting on this challenge. I commented on all the images except for the ones I voted a 5 or 6. And I even commented on a few of those but I really think I am done for now. Looking forward to see how this challenge turns out, seems as though my entry wasn't a big hit though. Only 8 comments and a low 4 score. Oh well. There were many great entries in this challenge.

You have rated 187 of 187 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 122 images (65%) in this challenge.

If you didn't receive a comment from me I'm sorry.

I wish there was a way we could indicate that on our photos...

It would be a great idea for dpc to add an "I want brutally honest comments" checkbox on the submission page.
I would definitely leave more constructive comments on more photos if I new people wanted to hear what I actually thought.

Not very high but lots of good comments :) Looking forward to seeing who the jury picks...

there is no need to indicate we want honest comments, we want that simply by being here, wee pay money to be here, in the hope we are with serious people only, be it amateur or pro.

if not then we could just stay all in flickr, there you can get all the "ohhh's and ahhh's" other then that some people here should grow up, art is art, and just like with food not everybody enjoys eating pigs ears, and others swear by it. that doesnt mean that one or the other is wrong

Well I'm headed into the last 70 vote-comment. I don’t believe I have been harsh on comments left. My votes so far are averaging a bit over 6, nothing under a 4 and only 1 10. If I leave a generic comment it probably means I don’t get your message or I don’t feel it, but as art is subjective and personal, it might be just me missing things. Good luck everyone, and may today be troll free..

I don't know Will, but I do know mine has dropped by 0.1275 since yesterday morning (some 30 votes). Seems to happen that mid week the score peaks and then drops. Can only hope that some folk give last minute bumps I suppose. I see you have also got a lot of comments :)

Yes the amount and nature of the comments has been just great I have to say and the creativity of some of the entries has made this a most enjoyable challenge to
participate in.

Apart from the Hidden Gem challenge last year, I have never had so many comments (during the challenge itself I mean). I'm astonished and thanks to everyone for taking the trouble to comment.

Who is to say what there is to GET about fine art? And why wouldn't your opinion/comment matter as much in this challenge as any other? I'm not sure what there is to be afraid about since this whole challenge is about being a learning experience for all of us anyway.

Amen! I'm leaving the same uninformed birdbrain comments in this challenge as I would in any other. I don't have to like your photo and you don't have to like my comment. See how nicely that works out?
