So I sold my 7D to a gentleman in the U.K. Right after I sent him the 7D, I sent him the battery. Batteries aren't allowed to be exported from Japan (New laws) and the first time I tried getting them out (With a shipment to Australia) it went through. Second time going to the U.S I got pinched at Japan customs.

Anyways, the item has a tracking number. It arrived at the local post office on the 4th, then it had "Retention" next to it. I don't know what this means. The Japanese used for the word is directly translate as "Storage". So, why would the local post office "Store" or "Retain" an item? I was actually worried enough to call the Postal Service. After navigating through all their crap navidial stuff, I got to a real person who told me "You'll have to ask Japan post what this means." Well, it's 10pm and I won't get a chance until Monday to ask what this means...and even then I don't think they will be able to tell me much about anything specific. I asked the person who bought the camera to check in with the local post office. Hope he's getting my msgs.

Any help would be great if you have experience with this time of stuff.

Not saying this is correct but the person you are sending to may have elected to collect from the depot/post office - hence the 'retention' message??

I couldn't say for certain. The Post Office web-site isn't the most helpful of places //www.postoffice.co.uk, but it could be they are holding it pending payment of hostage ransom import duties, or they might simply have tried to deliver, and there was nobody home, so they keep it in the local post office/delivery depot.

Ok...now it says final delivery made. When I contacted the buyer he was suprised saying that he was home and that no delivery was made. A quick search for similar situations and I found some people saying final delivery means it's at the local post office. While I am not certain if this is the case, I'm wondering what my next step should be. It's Sunday here and not much I can do, tomorrow I will go to the post office and see what they have to say. I have a feeling the attitude will be "Our computers say delivered so it's been delivered." I am sure that the item was shipped to the right address and doubt that the buyer would lie. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's at the post office there. The item is insured so I'm guessing worst case is I refund the buyer, file a claim with the post office here, wait for things to happen and get reimbused.

UK Postal System is a little backwards, and trying to track something too closely just gets confusing.......The item could easily have been dispatched from the central postal location into the delivery system, and while it says final delivery made, it is probably been processed by their system and due to be delivered Monday. If they are not home, depending on the type of postage you used, it will either be left in their letterbox (if it fits) or a form will be left for them to pick it up at their local Parcel Centre.........
I would not worry too much until at least midweek...........
First time I had things posted through to here, I tried to track it and ended up completely confused by their words on the website too............

OK, I called Japan Post. They linked me to a site on the U.K site that shows that the person signed for and received the parcel I sent. There are only two possible scenarios I can think of: Parcel was delivered to the wrong address (I double checked my invoice receipt and the paypal address, no mistakes on my part), or the person has received them but is claiming they weren't. All communication has been friendly so far. I don't want to think that this person is attempting to mess with me, but that's all I can think of right now.
