It very likely could've been my entry in the Humor III challenge. It apparently hit a nerve with a few people, so I pulled it from the competition. I can see a DNMC vote - even a 1, but your only "1" vote in four years?? Surely you have seen more offensive images than this.
More on topic, I am not going to argue with someone about their reaction to any of my images - it is what it is - if Cory thinks my entry is DNMC and gives it a 1 and Wendy gives it a DNMC and a 4 and someone else thinks it is so awesome that the topic is no longer relevant and they give it a 10 - so be it. That's a reflection of the diversity of the site and I wouldn't want it any other way.
I am also on board with what Bear is saying - I have no problem with these discussions and trying to get someone to come around to your way of thinking, but also being ok with them if they don't. That is (should) be one of the positive characteristics of our community. |

If an image causes someone to be offended, I'd say it may have been a successful entry to be able to get them riled up. |

It depends on why it causes offense. There was a big bruhaha here about a year ago when a jogger was killed by a hit-and-run drunk driver. Anyway, someone took a picture of the jogger's bloddy shoe in the street, and it was printed on the front page of the paper. The picture caused offense to many who knew the victim. I thought it was a powerful image.
Art, it wasn't your picture. It was by FotomannForever (or whatever his name was). |

I LOVE the idea of a DNMC button, say 30+% say DNMC, image gets a DQ :) nice idea (unless of course the image clearly does meet challenge)
Beyond that, I think I'll do something new.. I'm going to vote 1 on every image that I feel is a DNMC, with a comment. I will raise the score in a day or two to what I feel is a fair score based upon merit, albeit it lower than if it did meet challenge.
Now, I dare somebody to enter a secretary typing on a keyboard type of shot for the Fine Art Challenge... Dare. You. :) (In the end I'd have to give up a 10 for meeting my challenge ;) )

just because it's all in focus doesn't mean it's all on the same plane.
Meeting the challenge is a major part of the exercise here, but is it 90% of the exercise? 1s should be reserved for total failures, not for failing or appearing to fail one aspect of the exercise. |

I agree Art... I love to voice my opinion as I can see a lot of others do too. When it comes down to it, we can't always change people's opinions, but we all have the right to voice them. I have enjoyed this site immensely in the short time I have been around - even when people don't agree with me :/ |

A photo depicting suicide (bloody or not) gets an automatic 1 from me. It's not something that needs to be glorified or "created" for a photo contest. JMO of course. :-) |

Another random thought. What do you think is the point of framing something in a photograph? To me it's to draw attention to the thing framed. Maybe even to add another dimension to the viewer's understanding of the thing, thereby adding to the story the image tells. Where the frame is in relation to the thing framed (front, back, whatever) doesn't interest me nearly as much as the effect it creates. As long as there is a frame on 2 sides (and they can be diagonal sides for all I care) I think the image meets the spirit of the challenge. Whether it does it effectively is a whole 'nother story. |

I think the cool thing is that when you're voting, you get to set your own rules as to how you feel the photogs go about their interpretation of the theme.
I'm way more likely to give a high vote to something that obvious thought and preparation went into for the jubject alone. I saw quite a few that I really liked in the Framing challenge and rewarded them for their unique concept & execution.
If you want to wow me, and get a high score, enter something that'll make me say, "Huh.....I'd have never thought of THAT!!!!"
I seek creativity, I want to be inspired, I really don't want to see another bald eagle, Golden Gate Bridge, purple west coast velvety sunset surf, water drop, aurora, or pastoral landscape.
Show me the cool stuff!

I'm in the camp of ZZ and Bear. Got love from Cory, no problem, and I didn't send a nasty PM. I was expecting more comments like his, but still over a 5. BTW, happy to see Corey explain his low votes, and then explore the concept. |

How about a rusty old car crossing the Golden Gate? |

In reference to the picture of the flowers arranged like a shoe, what about doing the opposite and taking a picture of the intended subject in a way that makes it look like something else? For example, this picture in the Camera Movement challenge used camera movement to make it look like the camera was still and the subject was moving. It meet the challenge in the making of the picture, but that was not obvious to some observers of the final product.

Me and my car have never been anywhere near the Golden Gate - thank you very much!
He also didn't mention flowers or naked women - but I guess since he's a guy - he wouldn't mention the women. |

I love flower pictures, and my love affair with beauty in nature extends both to flowers and women, however I'm not big on nudes unless they're extremely well done.
The appeal of beauty in women for me is much more about face, presentation, and attitude....

You'll also notice that another guy, pawdrix, gets it in a similar manner as I do, judging by the fact that I have a few of his pics of women in my favs. Steve has an uncanny knack for being able to bring out attitude, presence, and personality in his images of people.
Somehow, I cannot imagine, especially considering the myriad of ways women can be depicted, that I'd ever get tired of images of them.

I agree as well. I also thought that some of the more unique, different, and creative ways that framing was presented in this challenge were outstanding.
