I think I may have the brown solidly in hand. I didn't think my image was that bad, but I changed my entry at the last minute and realize now (and I knew better) that I shouldn't have. Always go with your first best choice. NEVER second guess!! Oh well, another good learning experience. I haven't entered in a long time and needed this "kick in the pants" to get inspired again. Spring and better days will come again :)

The 12 or so votes that came in overnight dropped my score a lot:

What is so confusing?

Simple enough -- compose a photograph somehow related to the garden. Here's the catch... the main subject of your photograph may NOT be a flower.

It says "somehow related to the garden" and no flowers as the main subject. I got a comment that says it doesnt make they feel like they are "in" a garden? I dropped from a 5.89 to a 5.83 this morning. I kind of wish I didnt enter this one because its very frustrating.

It gets better, my first challenge was a blatant DNMC (does not meet challenge) I scored in the 3s, and it has been getting slowly better since then.

There is a great spreadsheet for tracking scores on Hawkeyelonewolf's profile page.

My photo was taken in a garden. It is in focus, clear, well lit, good detail, etc. Usually I know why my photos are not scoring well, I can usually pick out the flaw. Not this time. I am baffled by my low score.

My score continues to drop. It's unbelievable, really.

This is my first challenge and I can't say I'm all that impressed with how the voting works. Is anyone over 6? Did the scores start out low and cause a run on low scores from fellow submitters? Seems like it'd be easy to turn into a vicious circle like that. Start out with low scores and then take it out on the other submissions because you think your photo is better.

I'm curious to hear from the more experienced if this is fairly run of the mill or a particularly rough batch of scores.

Welcome. You can find roughly 200 scoring threads in the forums here. Rest assured there's no rhyme nor reason to why voters do what they do.

should have posted at 100 it looked alot prettier then...6.74...just when I think I might crawl/claw my way back up some troll shows up...sigh...double sigh

Most people don't vote other photos down depending on their own score. You don't vote fairly if you base your votes for other people on your own score.

You need to completely ignore what you are getting and vote the photos what they deserve. Some people can't do that, so they don't vote on challenges that they enter. I frequently have an average vote given higher than the vote that I receive. And since I'm an arrogant person, I rarely think that my photo is a middle of the pack photo. But that doesn't affect my average vote given at all.

(all that being said, I did think that I would be in the low 6s, and I've been trolled more than normal in this challenge)

100*6.74 = 674
114*5.693 = 649

That's not possible lol. Unless there's a hidden feature for negative votes or voters drastically changed the scores they already gave. Must be a typo/ =P

Well that's good to hear. As a noob I'm just trying to feel it out and obviously haven't followed a "post your scores" thread before, so I don't know how they typically go. I assumed from all the complaining about low scores that things could downward spiral. But it's good to hear that they don't. As a new guy I should probably keep my yap shut and live and learn, but this dang internetz makes it so easy to spout off.
