And congrats on the ribbon! I didn't get a chance to vote on the perspective challenge before I left :( |
Thanks! And hey, I am literally right across the street from the Kemptville Snowmobile Klub. Seriously! |
You could probably take this trail and drive right down here! It runs right across the street from me. I'm in Topinabee.
Here is a map. It's really quite cool. In the winter snowmobiles go by all day. You see more snowmobiles at the gas stations and bars then cars. There is the coolest bar and grill a quarter of a mile down the road from me. The trail runs right by it. Then in town (next to the trail) there is a park with public restrooms. Across the street from the park is a gas station/party store/deli/pizza/ice cream parlor. Then...in the summer the boat ramp is right across the street and there's a beach. I just love my little town. Can you tell? LOL My mom and dad are across the lake from us. I tried to get Tina to drive us across the lake yesterday but she wouldn't do it! I was just kidding, I don't think I'd do it either. There's all kinds of fishing shantys out there and I see trucks out on the lake but...I'm a chicken!
These pills make me a little chatty. Ya think??

You sure did! Topinabee/ Indian River exit. And I'm only 3 miles off of I75. I wouldn't have been much fun right now though with this back thing going on right now. Maybe next time. |

He called a couple of days ago to let me know that Mum had had her annual stress test that morning, and the results were enough that they kept her for an angiogram.
Now the results of that test are back, and she has to have open-heart surgery. Ironically she is the one in the best spirits, everyone else is doing the hand-wringing and fretting! |
Awww...Susan, I know how you're feeling. My mom just went back for a checkup at her oncologist after all the stuff she went through last year. Her hair is finally grown in pretty much and she was scheduled to get her artificial knee put back in next Tues. Well...he found a small lump in her neck and thought he could feel a mass in her abdominal area. They did a biopsy on her neck and it is cancer again. They did a ct/scan on her abdominal area and we should get those results tomorrow. I just feel so bad for her and I'm so scared. But like your mother, she's taking it better then the rest of us. |
Hugs to both of you. I know what you guys are going thru right now and it's heart wrenching. We are watching the same thing happen to my MIL. And I have a lot to write about it, but it's not going to help you feel any better right now. What we've been doing tho is making sure that her spirits stay high and that she doesn't get lonely. Being alone during a time like this is the biggest downer of them all.
Best of luck to both your moms. They are in my prayers. |
A little bit of an update on my Mum. This is a woman who takes the dog for at least two brisk walks in the woods daily, usually at least 1/2 hr duration. She doesn't smoke, hardly drinks, and has always favoured healthy, real food over processed options. She should be the poster child for how vibrant and active you can be at 78 (actually she DOES turn 78 in a couple of days).
The angiogram results have gone from bad to worse. Not only does she has multiple blockages, but she needs open heart surgery but can't have it due to the number of blockages. She's inoperable. She is being sent home today with a pile of meds to live until...well...:-(
I, and I am sure the rest of my family, are in shock over this. My dad, always the one in the family inclined to doom-and-gloom, being the one to deliver the message, isn't helping.
And only a few days ago I was on top of the world. Now I'm at the bottom. |

Thanks everyone for the kind words of support. I'll be talking to her this evening, hopefully I can get a better idea as to how she really feels about the whole thing.
Will try to go write some comments and critiques now...
Susan

Just got off the phone to my Mum. Apart from yawning a lot, and feeling tired when she walks up hills, she's sounding and feeling *relatively* fine. Didn't help that right after the stress test they bunged her in hospital for 2 days, so she was stuck in bed/wheelchair during that time. That would send me around the bend, small wonder she was going stir crazy at Lady Minto place.
Her heart and valves are fine, but so far there is too much damage to the arteries for them to do a bypass. So they're going to wait on the collateral arteries to do some healing, and then there might be surgery.
In the meantime, I've booked a flight out west for a week during April. |

I'm a little behind on things here,
Terry and Susan, I'm so sorry for the health problems! You and your families are in my prayers.
So Terry, how are you fairing? I hope things are starting to get better for you...

I'm guessing that she'll do just fine. And thanks for the pigeons - they're lovely! :) |

Susan...I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I really, really know how you're feeling. WE just got the results of my mom's ct/scan and they found more tumors in her pelvic area and on her aorta. So...she said she wants to start the treatment right away. We'll know more next week when she sees her oncologist. She's a fighter!
I see a neuro-surgeon Monday so it looks like surgery. I just hope they get it over with and I can heal up so I can help her.
If you ever need to talk to someone going through the same kind of thing, PM me.
And thanks for all the kind words everyone. |

Susan.....sorry to hear about your mom.
Would a little distraction from the NE DPC Strobist event help?

I think everyone here needs a good strong dose of good health. Sorry to hear of all the ailments, predicaments, surgeries, non-surgeries, etc. Really does suck and not in a good team suck kinda way. Does make me feel a lot better about my chronic heartburn, though. Seems so minor in comparison - I can definitely live with it.
And I've been feeling a bit bad about not being very participative here lately. So I entered Shoes. It is not going to do well. Odd little thing, the poor picture I entered, but I do like it. At least this time I do realize it is not particularly "good". :-) Working on something for the Tuesday batch as well.

Good to hear from you, Deb! At my end or rather my Mum's end, from what I can tell they are waiting to see if the collateral arteries will grow enough to allow for bypass surgery, because though her heart and valves are fine, the arteries are the problem.
Otherwise, I also have a last-minute entry for Shoes, and am working on a Dance shot. Really must get back on track with commenting and critiquing though, been slacking off a little lately.
((HUGS)) to all who need it
Susan, Druli and Lily
PS Just got confirmation from SC that my Plane has been validated...very happy, would soooo suck to lose that blue!

I'm also in for shoes and gardens. I'm quite pleased with both, but for different reasons. |

I'm in for shoes. It's not going to do well, and I wish I could go reshoot it to get the shot I wanted, because I really like the idea.
I have no ideas for garden or dance. Life just seems to be very, very busy.

argh! Have you ever spent most of the night trying to clean up a photo that you know won't do well in the first place? Like it's going to make a huge difference in the voting if you do spend more time on it and get it just right? I've spent the last 45 minutes adjusting the amount of blue. Talk about obsessing. (just think how much time I'd spend if I actually knew more about photoshop! I have my 6 things that I know how to do.)

I'm in shoes. It is awful, but I told myself I have to enter since it has been over 4 months since I have entered anything. Don't know why I bother. I'm addicted to suckiness I guess.
I forgot to add my apologies to the Golden Brigade. First, for not being here in months and second for entering the pic I just entered.
