| Not sure about the 50mm F/2.8; however, I really love my 50 mm F/1.4, you can't beat it for sharpness. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. |

You mean 1.8, right?

I don't often shoot with my li'l prime micro lens, but I am glad when I do:
PS George, check out IreneM - she has shot tons of ribbon winners with the 60mm f2.8.

$350 on eBay ...not bad. Bjørn Rørslett doesn't like it that much, though; here's his review:
"The latest version of the 'normal' Micro-Nikkors got an increase in focal length, and reaches 1:1 on its own. At the near limit there is scarcely any free distance left in front of the lens, so this isn't the appropriate item for doing close-ups of shy animals. It manages to go to life-size by shortening its already very short focal length. I don't like this lens and shy away from using it. For those utilising it, however, sharp images are obtained at apertures from f/5.6 to f/11. Beyond that range image quality deteriorates. Be aware that it has re-introduced a feature of the first Micro-Nikkors by being less sharp at distance."
He likes the new AF-S G lens more, which is $540 new. Sharp from 2.8, sharp at a distance. However, "free working distance" is 5 cm (2 inches) on the new one as well, and the front element is no longer recessed.
