After I got my first ever 7+ scoring shot, I scored a 4.6 on the next challenge. So don't worry, it's normal :D

Congrats again for winning the blue!

I haven't done a formal resume, but I did submit an online application for a job with the National Forest Service. Won't get it, but it was a good exercise. Next up is trying to fill all the squares online (and there are a LOT of squares!) for the USAJOBS website. Will probably take a couple of weeks!

I just realized I've been here for a month now and have only entered one challenge in all that time. Apparently I have not yet adjusted to the change of scenery. It's not that Santa Barbara isn't scenic - it really is - it's just not my kind of scenic. I do miss Europe. I've had tons of ideas of stuff to shoot when challenges were announced only to realize I can't get to where I want to shoot. Ain't got no good train stations here. No nice pedestrian downtown areas. No drab gray landscapes. And not a whole lot of pigeons, either. Must learn to like seagulls, I suppose.

Pigeons are FRESH water sky rats, and seagulls are SALT water sky rats!

Heh! Cool! And I've been hankerin' for a ciggy these days. Though I do realize how MUCH more convenient it is to not smoke.

These are cool! Looks like something fun to play with.

And I went to your port to see what you have been up to, and you have not entered a challenge since August? What's up with that? :-o

My dad just called.

He called a couple of days ago to let me know that Mum had had her annual stress test that morning, and the results were enough that they kept her for an angiogram.

Now the results of that test are back, and she has to have open-heart surgery. Ironically she is the one in the best spirits, everyone else is doing the hand-wringing and fretting!

Susan, it sounds like she has the right idea. And it sounds like its very good that they look for this kind of thing before it can cause a problem! Best wishes to your Mum!

I hope there's nothing about smoking a joint and synchronized swimming! LOL

Thanks Deb. I'm not at all surprised at her attitude - hell she was a stay-at-home mum with 5 kids to raise - so she's much better at keeping her cool than most in my family. And her mum lived well into her 90s, so I think she will emerge in much better shape than everyone else.

I'm trying to keep my fretting to a minimum, mostly because it's kind of pointless. There are three of my sibs out in BC, along with my dad. Wouldn't do any good to add to the stress levels by bombing out there on the next flight (! what irony!), so I'm just taking Mum's lead and sitting chilly for now.

Awww...Susan, I know how you're feeling. My mom just went back for a checkup at her oncologist after all the stuff she went through last year. Her hair is finally grown in pretty much and she was scheduled to get her artificial knee put back in next Tues. Well...he found a small lump in her neck and thought he could feel a mass in her abdominal area. They did a biopsy on her neck and it is cancer again. They did a ct/scan on her abdominal area and we should get those results tomorrow. I just feel so bad for her and I'm so scared. But like your mother, she's taking it better then the rest of us.

I think that's how mums survive motherhood in the first place! Just in case anyone got the wrong impression from my previous post, I'm not burying my head in the sand. In fact I am planning to fly out to BC for my annual visit, soon, before work picks up again in a hurry.

But like my mum and her sang-froid - Dad says she looks great and healthy and is in good spirits but has multiple blockages, so a simple stent op is out of the question - I just believe it's better to keep something of a damper on my own emotions, so I can better help my sibs, Mum and Dad, when I do get out there in springtime.

Hey Max! Wanna do some cat/housesitting for oh about a week? Say mid-late Aprilish? ;-)

Addendum: All we have to do once mum recovers is either get her eating lots of red grapes, or drinking red wine. Sadly red wine tends to give her a headache so she normally opts for white, which to my knowledge has few or minimal health benefits. Don't know if this was/wasn't a factor but who's to say?

Hello all! I've just returned from a week long vacation to a little north of Sault St. Marie Ontario.

And excellent news! My two entries in voting are scoring 5.8390 and 6.2500 so in the next 5 days my top scoring entry will change twice :D

Good work Andrew! Did you go skiing? It took quite awhile for my PB to get replaced by another PB....;-)

PS Still waiting on results of the *drug test*...pretty sure my plane is clean...

My last PB was two weeks ago so hopefully I can keep it up.
I'm not a fan of skiing, but I did go snowmobiling.

And congrats on the ribbon! I didn't get a chance to vote on the perspective challenge before I left :(

Thanks! And hey, I am literally right across the street from the Kemptville Snowmobile Klub. Seriously!

Terry, I'm so sorry to hear this. Give her a hug from me. I'll try to catch up to you on FB later today (I'll be out from this morning till late afternoon).

Susan, I'm sure you mum will come through feeling better than ever. Best of luck to you all.

Hugs to both of you. I know what you guys are going thru right now and it's heart wrenching. We are watching the same thing happen to my MIL. And I have a lot to write about it, but it's not going to help you feel any better right now. What we've been doing tho is making sure that her spirits stay high and that she doesn't get lonely. Being alone during a time like this is the biggest downer of them all.

Best of luck to both your moms. They are in my prayers.

You should have come down to Michigan. I'm only 30 miles south of the Mackinaw Bridge.

I probably drove by you then! I went over the border to Detroit all the way up the I75 to the border and back into Canada.
