You know, having the brown is good, because you are guaranteed a lot of views at the end of a challenge lol. I always go to the last page just to see who the lucky soul was to win the brown. :D |

Brown? Not likely for you with a competitor whose current score is:

Actually, by challenge history it looks like even this may not claim the bottom. I'll leave my entry in because I like the image (more along lines of "importance" than "enumeration", so punishment expected via absolutist voters). Probably too abstract for many viewers. One of the comments was quite favorable and matches my idea about the image. Nice to know it communicates to at least one observer. Maybe it would be scoring better with math-related title instead of what it has. Thought of a good one, but not until this morning (!) -- leading to a vague case of namer's remorse (if there is such a thing). Sigh.

I can't understand the move to self-DQ when a photo isn't doing as well as you expect.......Maybe cause I dont care for my overall average. Sometimes appealing to a small minority that really appreciate the image is better than appealing to the masses. Some of the photos I am most happy with missed the Majority, but clicked with a few people.........
To me, Self-DQ just means you remove the chance of people giving you comments explaining why they didn't get or like the image, or for those that the photo does work, the comment that tells you that it clicked for them..... |

Ditto. Plus a Self-DQ is the same as DQ. I've only screwed up in that regard once and had I had a self-DQ, I would have been in he timeout chair. |

Agree Kevin.........If you have totally screwed up (uploaded the completely wrong file.........), they maybe a self-DQ is valid, but just cause the voters can't read, or don't agree with your interpretation............. |

bob350, you are ahead of me for now, plus you have comments and people have understood you! I am guessing that people don't rate me lower because they are not entirely sure that I do not meet the challenge. Nor am I. (Which might be a good reason to self DQ).
- no blame, as the I Ching so frequently assures us. |

Yeah, but IreneM could win with anything.........really, the way she lights images are great.....I normally hate her subject (both water drops and folded/curved paper shit me...........) but the way she lights her images are so good that she can appeal to everyone.........Credit to her. Wish I had that talent...... |

I was disapointed with this score at first but now I'm thinking maybe it's not too bad for this particular challenge. My photo is on the "things that matter" side of the challenge not on the calculator/accountant side. ;) |

I guess this isn't too bad either considering the low scores in general:

Kris, I reckon it is going to be a low scoring challenge due to the different interpretations of the challenge..........Therefore the high 5's are going to be a decent score in this challegne |

I'm pretty happy with this score considering the drastic swings in voting and challenge interpretation. Still hoping to get back over that 6 mark if possible. I can hope and wish can't I? LOL

The thing is sometimes a picture means more than a number. I can take my lumps, all you have to do is look at my scores. But sometimes there is too much of an attachment to let it ride. This is only my second self dq in all the years I've been here, so don't be too quick to judge. |

I think the majority of entries have interpreted the quote to mean "things that matter". I took it that way and shot accordingly (specifically for the challenge, so definitely not a shoehorn). I acknowledge though that some people have interpreted the quote differently, and so I have voted on the strength of the image as long as I can see a link to the challenge topic in either interpretation. It does seem however that some people have aimed for the brown with something that doesn't meet either interpretation, and quite frankly, just suck -not mentioning any names kiwinick ;P
The problem is that the voters who took it the literal way (counting, numbers, money etc) appear to be giving out 1s and 2s to those who interpreted the other way. My score is therefore doing stuff like 8, 7,6,7,1,7,6 and trending up, then getting slammed. I wonder if those who went the literal way are experiencing the same trend? |

I think there are voters on both sides of the fence, just like there are entrants on both sides of the fence.
