You can reply after the challenge... but not directly under the comment.

You can email the person and strike a conversation... but I personally like to wait until after the voting is done. |

		| You have to pm them. Click on thier name on the side of the comment, that takes you to their page and they should have private message and/or an email address. Responding to a lot of comments is sometimes frowned on by some folks. If they have a question that might cause them to score you lower, some people do answer the question. |

Also, after the challenge you CAN quote the original comment in your reply, just like in the forums. |

		| I think if someone asks a question that seems fair enough during a challenge, it is fine to answer them, I have asked questions and I like to get an answer, I have also been asked questions and answered them. I feel if someone cares or is interested enough to ask, I should answer. I think it is possible to do this without swaying scores much. |

I agree with this, in part.
However, I frequently incorporate question marks in my comments to articulate uncertainty on my part. These are not questions I expect to be addressed during the course of an ongoing challenge.

I believe, there should be no attempt to sway anyone's vote. To accomodate an integrity of process, it may be best to restrict a response to facts only. Brevity and discretion should dictate the manner of such an exchange, IMO.

I never thought about it swaying voters, I'd presumed
that they'd already voted then asked the question. But I realise now after seeing your comments this isn't necessarily the case. So I think I'll leave the replys till the end of the challenge.
Thanks all for showing this newbie the way |

How do you get to see the comments received on your challenge photos. Every time I click on the link, nothing comes up. Am I doing something wrong? New here, so I appreciate any help. Thank you.

In your preferences, under the My Home tab up top, there is a check box
under My Home Preferences for "My Scores - Show scores and comments for my submissions during voting week"
Check this box, and your submission title, number of votes and comments, score to date, and a link that will bring you to your submission and comments will appear on the left bar of your home page.

A word to the wise, people asking questions apparently doesn't mean they want answers, lol. Someone posted a question on my latest entry last week so I briefly PM'd them with a very quick little answer [didn't want to upset the balance between photographer and voter], but their post was apparently facetious and I got an angry PM back telling me it's wrong to message during voting and any photo needing an explanation is a failure.... Um, how was I supposed to know they were mocking me with their original post? Hello, I can't hear your tone via the INTERNET. lol. Some people's kids. I'd like to officially apologize for not being a mind reader. *insert sarcastic tone, because it's the internet and you can't see me rolling my eyes*

I leave comments and expect no responses. I perhaps have questioned a few (as in 'How does this fit the challenge') in a rhetorical way. I do expect an answer.

The challenge has a subject, and being a visual contest if the pic doesn't immediately strike me as fitting the challenge, i ask - just to let the entrant know it is not obvious to me that it fits the challenge. To me, If a pic needs a paragraph of explanation, then it does not fit the challenge.

I do not care one way or the other if folks respond to my comments during a challenge or after. It has no effect on my vote.

 Karen,
Thank you! I'm very new here and don't quite understand all the nuances of the site yet. Been on the Fred Miranda site for a while and everything there works very differently! Much appreciated.

lol now now, no need for further sarcasm, the post was "how does this fit the challenge?". In hind sight I see it was a paraphrase of this " How does this piece of crap have anything to do with anything? Way to ruin my day by exposing me to such a stank visual abomination"...or something along those lines :-)
