I had a couple of really long flights so I got a few movies in.
Last King of Scotland-
I'll say 7.5 or 8/10. Very powerful and surprising moments of the movie were interspersed with a jovial and happy-go-lucky atmosphere. This really kept things interesting. Had some definite gore and wtf moments in it, if you're squeamish.
500 Days of Summer -
7/10 It is what it is- a slightly different take on a romantic comedy, but with humor that I appreciated more than is typical of this genre. Interesting in that it also used a disjointed timeline.
District 9
8/10 Firstly, this movie wasn't at all what I was thinking it do be, but in a good way. It isn't just a "look at these weird aliens! They're weird!" or "will they help or kill humanity?" type alien movie, which is nice. I really enjoyed the storyline, and might have given it a 9 if the person next to me wasn't so damn annoying and impacting my viewing to the extent he did.
The Boys are Back
6/10 I technically wasn't able to finish this because the On-Demand couldn't continue playing my movie for some reason and I wasn't going to fast-forward through two thirds of the movie to get back to my original point, but all of what I saw was alright but not engrossing, nice but nothing more. Characters were sorta flat, left me thinking "okay... so what?"
Funny People
7/10 Also, not exactly what I thought it would be. Had some good comedy in it, suffered from an initially cliche love story, but did it well enough to keep things interesting and later developed more.

Blast from the Past - part of an Xmas collection of gifts. Bf told me it was a cool movie and a fave of his, so I got it for him and we watched it this afternoon with his mum and Nonni :-) 7/10 |

Sherlock Holmes opening day ... terrific.
Cinematography was outstanding. Good story. Robert Downey Jr (whom I'm not a fan of) did an extraordinary job as Sherlock.
7/10 |

Gamer 1/10 The idea for this movie was great but they turn into very sick movie, I hope I will forget it soon
Red Cliff 9/10 (The Chinese 2 part version) - Story, battles and effects were awesome, and every single scene was a piece of Chinese wisdom
The Ugly Truth 8/10 - Very amusing easy watchable comedy, the acting of Gerald Butler was great
Up 10/10 - I bet it will win the Oscar for best animated movie
Surrogates 7/10 - Not very inventive sci-fi flick but still a good movie
Moon 10/10 - I'd say that even it was a sci-fi movie, I'm pretty sure that the future will be resembling. A Great One man show performed by Sam Rockwell

My girlfriend and I just saw Avatar in IMAX 3D and loved it. We had to drive an hour to get to the real IMAX theater down in Ft Lauderdale, but the 5-story tall screen and 6 discreet audio channels over 18 speakers was well worth it.
I'd have to say a 7/10. |

Quarantine... //www.imdb.com/title/tt1082868/
9/10 Actually drew us in and scared us. Not overly gory, but the lack of a film score and the use of ambient sounds combine to build the suspense. For a modern scary movie it was actually very good. The only negative is the last image of the movie was too predictable after the rest of the movie kept surprising us. |

The VillageUltra boring. The only salvation rested in the fact that I had fantastic company, eh Beetle

"2012"
Don't bother... It's like watching clips from all of the best disaster movies without any attempt at a storyline. It's obvious they spent all their money on CGI (which admittedly was good), but they should have saved some for a script and some decent actors. |

These are on my list to see. Cross posting since I was pointed here from my other thread.
No I haven't seen these but they're on my list.
1) Have You Heard About the Morgans? Looks funny and of course, Hugh Grant, duh!!! :o)
2) Invictus - Good story and good actor and director (Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood)
3) Nine - saw the stars on Oprah and a few clips of the movie.
4) Sherlock Holmes - just 'cause I like a good mystery
There's probably more but that's a good enough list for me for now. |

Nine (last night): really so-so, disappointing. Figured the story would be average, but was expecting to be wowed by cinematography, lighting, design and production. Not so much.
Avatar (last weekend): fantastic, the time just flew by, and the 3D was exceptionally well done, not gimmicky, just enhancing |

2012 - 4/10 Predictable and boring. Makes you feel like you've seen the same film before. And you'll forget about it as soon as you leave the cinema.
This Is It - 8/10 - I was surprised, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It left me with a feeling of sadness and disappointment that what would have been an amazing spectacle never made it to the stage. It also offered an insight into the weird world of MJ.
Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 - 7/10 - A great afternoon's entertainment. The songs are excellent!
Avatar 3D - 9/10 - See it. |

The Perfect Getaway - 7/10 I thought it would be more predictable than it was. Fairly suspenseful and worth renting. |

Avatar
Long movie, especially the battle scene went on forever.
Some inconsistencies and a few groaners in the details.
However all up, I enjoyed it a lot.
Loved the 3D effect. It was much more subtle than they often are, but really enhanced the movie.
The whole show was quite a visual feast - very impressive in that regard! |

The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) - 9/10 (It's dated, violent and wildly ridiculous, but I love this movie).

Second that! One of my all time favorite quotes is from that movie: "Life is pain. Get used to it." - I use that on my kids all the time. |

It Might Get Loud
Loved it... as I am guessing most guitar players will. 3 unique guitarists discussing their styles and methods.
8.5 (they needed to jam a little bit more) |

It's Complicated
Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin
Loved it. Really funny, romantic comedy, and enjoyable to watch. I went in thinking it was just a "chick flick" but I think men would enjoy the movie too!! 9/10 |

The Blind Side
10/10 - I highly recommend this film. The acting was great (see below). I loved the story, and I think the film did a wonderful job translating the book and bringing to light the challenges Michael Oher faced growing up and how with the help of one family he rose to the top. I admire people who do everything they can to help another person, and this family did just that.
Sandra Bullock is fabulous, and the boy who plays her youngest son is terrific too.
I'm sure Sandra is going to be nominated for her performance.

Avatar...in IMAX 3D. I only go out to see "event" movies and this one did not disappoint. Visually stunning and very immersive. I didn't care for the preachiness and the obvious political slant but I still enjoyed the experience. 8/10 |
