Has a side challenge ever been done that basically invites members to post their favorite picture that would have met the rules of the most recent challenge (the one that just announced scores) if only it was taken during the week?

I have frequently thought of a perfect picture for a challenge that I took a long time ago.

For example, this week I would post my "Portrait of a Wild Bird" that was taken in April 2009:

Kind of like outtakes but the pictures could have been taken at any time in the past. Sure, it doesn't force us to go out and shoot, but that's what the challenges are for. This would give us an opportunity to show off things we have already done. Not sure what I'd call the side challenge but I think it would be fun, and interesting.

That's a good idea. I would guess that we would be seeing some excellent images.
Sometimes we miss the best shot for a challenge by only a day or two after cut off, due to weather or other distractions. In other words, could pix shot at any time fair game, as long as they are posted to the SC after scores for the challenge are announced.

A common lament and would probably be a popular ongoing side challenge.

This is an excellent idea, specially for people like me who generally try to shoehorn their photos, they will now hav a better way :-)

I would like to have caught this hawk again for the bird challenge. I actually submitted it for the Nov free study and it did allright, but would have done better in a bird challenge. He was distracted with protecting his kill which was a squirrel in his talons.
