It's a good question and one which i'm sure will be debated after the challenge. For me for a photograph to be candid the subject must not be reacting to the camera, once a subject does that it is no longer candid in my opinion. Thats not the same as not looking at the camera though, as that split second between noticing the camera and reacting to it often produces great candids. I think the key to it is to bypass a subjects inherent knowledge of what a camera does but that inherent knowledge is important. This is why i don't particularly think you can have candid animal shots as whilst they can look at a camera and react to being watched, they are not reacting to what a camera does. Also, i don't really think that you can have candid images of people on stage etc as they are already aware of being watched. All this is just my opinion on it though!

well I think there are definately some differences of opinion here as my score shoots up like a rocket and then drops like a stone.
It's been doing that for most of the day and I can only assume that this is due to what people do and do not consider candid photography. |

To everyone:
That's why I asked what people here consider to be good candid photography?
Or better yet, what is candid photography?
To me there needs to be a subject that is spontaneously captured in a way that will interest the viewer.
(that's the short version). |

I'll be starting a thread after the voting ends questioning people's definitions and looking further into the subject. I voted on a couple of shots and was surprised at how many criteria I had for what was candid and also what got extra points, imo. So hold on to all those thoughts, people. I think it could be an interesting discussion. |

Didn't enter, but finished voting.
You have rated 121 of 121 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 121 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.0579.
As far as challenge criteria, if it didn't have candy in it, it was DNMC, IMO. :P |

No eye candy here.
But it IS a good candid shot. Next time I'll post something pretty. |

Holding in the low 5's. About as figured for something that is decent but not standout. Dream score on this one is going to be anything over my average. |

I like this part of your description. I'm looking for a little spontanaeity too.
However, I guess I've failed to convey my own interpretation lol
