Ok, just got my fancy new Nikon D300s... and surprise, surprise, the RAW files won't open in Photoshop CS3. Of course I can't help but wonder why the D300s RAW files have to be different than the D300 RAW files, but I'll get over it, I guess.
Aside from upgrading to CS4, what other programs WILL open the D300s RAW files? I have Nikon's Capture NX Version 1.3, and even it won't open the files. I see there's a NX 2 now... so I assume I'm gonna be strong-armed into upgrading that?
It would be nice if SOMETHING would open the RAW files... |

It looks like my best option is to use Adobe's DNG converter to switch the files to DNG, which I can then open normally in Photoshop. An extra step... but one that doesn't cost $$ :) |

If I'm not mistken, upgrading Camera Raw will allow you to work with D300s raw files in CS3. |

Not from what I've read... CS3 will only work with Camera Raw 4.5 or some such thing. The D300s isn't added until 5 or so. I'd love to be proven wrong, though :)

I use Raw Therapee for my D300. It's a freebee. Not near as nice as NX but seems to work fine for me. |

Like Alan said:
Camera Raw 5 and later is not compatible with Photoshop CS3.

Just spoke to a friend who was having the exact same problem. He has Lightroom 2 and simply upgraded it to 2.5. eta: This allowed PS 3 to use the files

I ran into the same issue with my D300 and CS2. Even the DNG conversion didn't work for me. I ended up upgrading to CS4. I wasn't happy about spending the money at the time. But now that I have had CS4 for awhile. I gotta say it was worth the 200 bucks to upgrade.

I open mine in Lightroom 2.6 (worked in 2.5 also) and move to Photoshop CS2 to play. |
