Please keep the families of the four slain officers in Tacoma, WA in your thoughts/prayers. They were sitting in a coffee shop this morning when a gunman came in and shot all four of them. It was not a robbery, and no one else in the shop was hurt. The gunman/gunmen are still at large. As a police dispatcher, this really hits close to home. Many of the men and women I dispatch for know many of the officers in the area. As this time, the names of the victims have not been revealed.

So sad.

To make it even worse I find the discourse on the tread associated with the story so disheartening. Our country is so politically polarized that even a tragedy such as this can not be seen as evil for all of society, not matter your political beliefs.

A horrible, tragic story. My father is a 23 year veteran of a PD outside Chicago. My family spent many years listening to the police scanner, monitoring the calls, praying he will make it home each night. My heart goes out to these officer's shattered families and brothers and sisters in their Department.

What a sad and horrible event. There is no reason on earth for things like this to happen and it takes a sick individual to do something like this!!! What a tragedy.

So true. This is not a partisan issue.

Link with photos of the victims. Got to be a tough SOB to kill 4 cops in bulletproof vests and escape the scene. Wonder if the fleeing employees warned the cops what was coming, or maybe it happened at the same time they fled? Probably would be 6 dead if they hadn't run.

I heard this morning that police were in a standoff with the gunman.

I was instantly reminded of the shooting here in Alberta a few years ago in Mayerthorpe where 4 RCMP officers were slain.

I lived in the area just a few years ago- and know several police officers for the Tacoma PD. What a terrifying thing that feels so close to home. My thoughts have definately been with these people

ITs a fact of life that people who post on news paper/news site forums are the worst human scum on the planet.

I thought they believed the gunman was shot and possible dead? I thought by the 4th officer or was I reading something else?

Can I be the first one to start the finger pointing? ------>MikeHuckabee<------ Just think, if he makes it to president he can let out all kinds of terorists. This is like the 4th or 5th Murderer or rapist to recomit that he let out. This guy was sentenced to 94 years.

;(

For the record, he was arrested here in WA recently for rape of a 12 year old, AND RELEASED AGAIN!
