I need to turn these 2 pictures into a mag cover.

I need to make the background awesome so any thoughts would help.

Original sizes are linked in the images.

Are you editing them seperately or combining them into a sport collage type of thing?
11/23/2009 05:56:44 PM · #3
Well. I'd volunteer to do some topazing to get some oomph into 'em, but you're on record as opposing the topazing of mediocre images into wowser images, so I guess I better not :-)

Seriously though, when I see the full size I may do that...

I knew that would come up... but I'm serious I need a full edit for these images.

Trevor, I need to put them together to create 1 full page (12x9 cover). I shot these for a magazine last week and I just wasn't motivated to come up with anything new that I haven't already done for the mag int he last year and it was dark and cold so I just took some shots thinking I could add some effects to the BG's.

BTW they are now online, I needed to upload them. Sorry for the delay.

Okay, here's some 800-pixel reductions of a couple Topaz versions to add some grit quality.

I have full-size, layered PSD files on these. I'm not your best bet for merging and backgrounding them, but if you like the topaz grunge, someone can work with my PSD files to do a final composite.

ETA: I'm assuming they'll be abstracted from the BG, otherwise I can easily eliminate the BG distractions...

I think you already have the makings for some great covers - very little editing is needed. There are some small details you can clean up and enhance to make little things like their eyes stand out a bit more and reduce the influence of the background. These would be my quick takes.

EDIT: I mean, you've gotta leave room for text and lots of it... The more negative/empty space, the better, right? Or am I completely missing the point of this exercise? I assume you wanted 2 different covers, right?

Agreed.

Thank you Bear taking the time to look at his photos and taking time out of your day to help a fellow photographer who can not edit his own pictures. =)

Well that was kinda RUDE!!! It's not that I CAN'T edit them, my creative juices aren't flowing lately... What magazine did you shoot for again???

I would be glad to give it a try but my computer is up on the racks at the shop tonight. Hopefully tomorrow they will be able to tell me what's wrong and the cost will not be much.

When I get it back, if you still need an edit, I will give it a try.

What do you vision the cover to look like?

regards,
Scott

Nothing really special about this, but a gradient background is something I've used in the past for publication and it worked pretty well. You've gotta leave so much room for text these days... Sorry if this isn't helpful.
