Ok, technically the winner was a very decent photo and I did leave a comment on it saying it might do better with just the fish and water, but perhaps someone can explain how they go together?

Thanks
Mike

I didn't check your profile but perhaps you aren't from North America [I can't speak for other cultures]. If you are from NA, then your 'imagination' must ride the short bus to school since the fish-cat stereotype is a staple within our social pop culture. A kid brings home a new goldfish and mom yells "put it where the cat can't get it!", or you turn on saturday morning cartoons to see the parallel: cats and fish or cats and birds, same premise. And if your post was sarcasm which I didn't pick up on, then save a seat for me on the before mentioned short bus.

How about a topic of "least cliche" cats ONLY. Now that would be a challenge!

They are ok if you balance it out with some veggies, maybe some rice too, and the right sauce. Or maybe cajun style, all together in a spicey gumbo. Hmmmm....

Dont know who this is directed at Kosta for his stretch of his imagination or me for saying that cats and fish dont go together, in my view.

So in answer to one of your questions - i can state that No I am not from North America.

Kosta - over to you to explain what bus your catching these days!!

*yawn* two guys initially sharing the same opinion, now also sharing the same opinion? *GASP* Stop the press! Err, I mean Stop the bus!

I'm still at a loss, reading these "cat and fish don't belong" comments, will no Canadians or Americans stand up for our overly commercial lifestyles? I am Canadian and when I turn on the TV I see cats staring at fish in bowls, just ever so slightly out of reach. I am Canadian and I think cats and fish DO belong together in a "catch me if you can!" sort of way. I am Canadian and I think cats and fish belong on the same platter along with moose, goose, deer and misc. other forms of roadkill served arrogantly with a slightly frosty mug of DOMESTIC draft. My name is Goldberry, And I Am Canadian!
*bows*
Thank you, Thank you, I'm here all night, tip your waitress.

Only one newfie with an opinion at a time thankyouverymuch! If too many of us open our mouths at the same time the pull of the universe may be adversely affected.

From the US, and I agree with Mike and Kosta. I even commented on the photo during the challenge. Like CarlaCryptic said, it's not just putting the two together, but then putting the title "partners in crime" on it. They're adversaries, how can you identify them as partners??? If there had been some title that connected them as predator/prey, hungry/dinner, anything that put them together in their real roles, then hey, no problem. I just do not get the title. Maybe an explanation would help.

And, Yanik, glad you pointed that out. It is nice to see some non-DSLRs at the top of the list.

edit: In fact, 7 of the 9 on the front page are non-DSLR. It ain't the camera....

I agree also! Like i previously said our cat did in our fish years ago,but there is no accounting for peoples voting! I would have liked it more if the cat had a kapkin around his neck and a knife and fork in his hands, Now this would be a great shot! Cats do seem mesmorized by fish in a bowl though! I believe it is more of an I am going to get you thing. It took Grouch two years before he finally brought Eric the half a fish to his end!

Bottom line is that the voters had no problem with cat and fish going together, and around here the voters get the last word. Congrats Yanik!

No arguement there. I gave it a 7 - which is within .2 of its final score, so I guess I am the DPC masses. :) I could, myself, see them going together, but thought the title spoiled the connection a bit. I just would like to know what the title was intended to mean. A more appropriate title (or an understanding of the title) may have bumped my score a point or so, and may have bumped his final score higher as well, from the sound of things in this thread.

Well Scott.. to be honest....Once the voting started, I started regretting my title....

Partners in crime simply refers to 2 beings about to be part of a crime.... one comitting it and the other suffering it. That's all. :-)

To me "partners" implies that both parties are benefitting. But to be honest, the title isn't the problem. If someone said to me, "What's the first thing that pops into your mind when I say cat?", I definitely wouldn't say fish. Maybe I'd say mouse. In any case, congrats on your ribbon.
