| I was in my email the other night and it froze up. I tried everything i knew to get out of the frozen page, but nothing worked. I had to do a hard shutdown, and now the computer won't restart at all. It begins to load up, but comes to a stop and that is it. I believe I had this problem once before and someone told us something to do, and it worked again. I can't remember what that was. I am running Vista. |

| I had that happen to me twice. once the computer somehow switched drive letters and the boot sequence was trying boot from a drive that didn't exist. I went into MS DOS and fixed it. The other time it happened was because the Hard Drive died. Both time were pre vista days in fact I am pretty sure they were both with Windows 98 |

| Mine does this sometimes. I shut it down and unplug it for a minute and start it back up. |

| we will try that...at the moment it freezes right after the blue start-up screen...gets to detecting storage devices and then stops...nothing more |

| If you have a bootable (recovery) CD then boot with that. |

unplug anything plugged into USB or firewire. and any other peripherals you don't need attached.

What he said - unplug EVERYTHING except for monitor, mouse and keyboard. Then see how you get on. Unplug webcams, gfx tablets, printers, hard drives, usb keys, even speakers - just try and run it barebones and if it still doesnt work then try the recovery/setup DVD. |
