Hi,

I am using CANON 40D. My Image size is normally 3-4MB. How can I increase the image size? I mean I want my photos to be 10MB or so .
Can any one help me with this ?

Thanks,

I can understand wanting the image to have bigger dimensions, but why would you want your file size to increase?

aliqui- The reason I want to increase the size of the image is that when I spread the image , The picture will be clearer (this is what I think). And how I can increase the dimensions of the image?

Try saving the edited image as a .tif file.
You posted your explanation while I was typing. Are you asking is how to scale the image so that it will be larger in inches or pixels ?

I use a Mac, so I don't know how to do that with a windows computer. With a Mac, you just create a target file, and export the file to it. There is a check box or drop-down in the export window to select file format. Tif is an uncompressed format. Changing file format does not change the dimensions of the image. It just saves the file without compressing it. A 4MB .jpg file usually is about 34MB when saved as a .tif file.
I think that "scale" is what you are looking for to resize your images.

If you shoot in Raw, your files should be on average 10MB, but shooting in Jpeg will only get you 3-4MB because the file is being compressed.

Whatever mode you shoot in though, your 40D will still produce a 3888x2592 pixel image. Enlarging it through the use of post processing software (Photoshop) will only reduce the quality.

Hope this helps.

You can't. You can either shoot JPEG, or RAW (or a combination of both). If you shoot JPEG, make sure you have the quality setting to "large/fine." For best output quality, shoot RAW, and save to whatever format you wish. Converted RAW files from most cameras will have slightly better detail than out-of-camera JPEGs.
Please note that the files size (in MB) has little to do with how well it will take up-sampling. Also, data can never be created from nothing, so an up-sampled image will always be softer than the original.

how about if your more clear on what your doing EXACTLY with your image, then someone can be more helpfull... I'm not sure if what you're trying to do will work.. but there may be another technique to get to the same end result if we knew what the end result truly was meant to be...
