sup all... first post
I was wondering if there was away to connect a camera to a laptop, and use the laptop as a Ă¢€˜control panelĂ¢€™ instead of the actual buttons/lcd screen on the camera itself.
e.g.- (simple)
snap a photo and have it appear instantly on the laptop, and use the laptop to save the photo or delete it.
e.g.- (complex)
control: shutter speed, zoom, scene, and so on...
Am I wondering in the future, or is this available now?

| My G3 does this...just connect it through the USB cord and open the software. |

| The majority of newer Canon cameras come with it bundled. |

its been available for several years, at least for the canon cameras.
There are a variety of sources, and canon will send you a software dev kit to write your own too, if you ask them. I had one for the powershot G2 a while back and it was cool writing scripts to take pictures...

Sony have a fairly well deserved reputation for not 'playing well with others' (memory stick et al) I had a quickly look and couldn't find any mention of remote capture software or tethered control of the camera. I'd be really surprised if sony had made a publically available SDK.

try searching the forms as I remember this was discussed over there alot, but not sure if something was ever made to work with the Sony 7x7 and a PC for camera control

from the link it says that sony dose not support the software need for remote cap'
time to throw this sony piece of shit in the trash!
anyone know of a good canon? |

| My Minolta DiMAGE A1 can be operated from a computer but I haven't purchased the optional software to do it so I can't say how well it works. Seems like a great idea for studio photography. |
