It's pretty easy, Just install the action located in the topaz folder.

Open Ps and open your actions pallet. click load new action and point it here
C:/PROGRAM FILES/TOPAZ LABS/TOPAZ REMASK/ACTIONS/TOPAZ_MASK.ATN

Then open an image and click "BEFORE MASKING" to start the process. Choose a hard brush at 50% gray and paint the edges of your subject. Then choose the fill bucket with black and fill everything you want to remove from the image. Then go back to the actions pallet and choose the "PROCESS" action, it will finish the process and boom your done. Easy as 1-2-3, hahahaha

Bah ... won't run on either my PC or Mac ... :-(

Maybe that's good, since I can't really afford it anyway ... :-)

Why won't it run on your machines?

Instead of clicking the WIN link click the "alt" link in small text to the right of the word WIN. That worked for me. Make sure you read the how to install file first.

FYI - here's some directions someone gave me over at Flickr. This is for running ReMask without the action:

Remask is a plug in. But it works via the mask features in photoshop.
So the process for not using the action is as follow:
Open your image
Duplicate it
Open a new layer mask (click on the icon to create it at the bottom of the layer tab. The new layer mask is white (a show all mask).
Click on the layer mask to make it active.
Pick a 50% color gray for your brush and preferably use a hard edge brush.
Draw a line around the subject you want to extract. Make sure it is totally enclosed or hitting an edge.
Now you have to work in the mask, so to make it visible, "Alt-click" on the mask icon and you'll see the grey line you just draw.
With the magic wand pick the outside of the line (the portion you want to remove or hide) the marching ants of the selection appear around your grey line.
Fill that selection with black
Click on the picture icon to show your picture again.
Now, run ReMask.

Why won't it run on your machines?

Both too old/primitive ... PC has old OS, Mac is not Intel-based hardware.

R.

Maybe you typoed your email, or it's in your spam folder? :-(

I got my promo email for this and am definitely planning on trying it out when I have a chance. I just finished doing a boatload of masking for some storefront, a catalogue, and a couple of covers. Too bad this didn't come out earlier, it might have saved me a couple of (sunny) weekends. :-(

ReMask helped find a stray kitty a new home ;-).

Out of all the masking software I have (and I have most of the main commercial ones), ReMask was the most fun to use and did a great job quickly. Others are just a pain.

I think the difference is being able to work directly on the mask channel rather than in a plug-in interface.

As for downloading Topaz plug-ins, I always use the Alt link from their website. It's more reliable.

Guess I am the first one here to get the problem with the -1000 error.. It's related to memory and there are some solutions but they don't work for everyone. Anyone else have this error and get a chance to fix it?

Solutions I've seen so far were:
adjust the amount of memory used by PS to 40% or 85%
Change vit. mem to allow more...

Nothing worked for me yet.

I have received no errors but I also have yet to get it to work at all. And by work I mean it doesn't load, doesn't run, nada, zilch, zero. I have installed multiple times and even followed - exactly - the suggestions I received from Topaz support and it has yet to function. They told me they would refund my money it it continued to fail to work as they have yet to figure out why it isn't working on my machine/configuration. And the funny thing is there is nothing different with my system, software, configuration.

I bought it the other day and had no issues installing it on my Mac ... haven't played with it yet though ... Joe, I'll give it a try and let you know if I'm getting any errors ...

After installation did you open PS and load the action?

No, it auto loaded for me ... I had to re-start PS to see it in the filters list ... just verified that I'm having no issues using it ... pretty slick, actually!

Yes. This is what has the Topaz people stumped I think. I went through directory listings with them to make sure all files were where they are supposed to be but there is NO ACTION for PS to load when I go to load it. And PS crashes when I hit the ReMask filter from the drop down.

I got it to work just fine, but it does a poor job, even separating a black shirt from a red background. My experience with it at any rate. :-/

strange, worked fine for me. Are you sure you followed the instructions carefully? (like, using pure 128-128-128 gray for covering the border, and covering it with completely, and using pure 0-0-0 black outside the selection, it is all essential). I haven't used it that much, tend to use selections very rarely.

Yes. But I did use a fairly wide brush for the gray, but I thought it was pretty reasonable, and allowed me to work without zooming. I'll give it another try on something else, though. I'd really like to get it to working for me.

Send me the picture I would like to try it out. I installed it on 2 of my machines and the one it does work on I've used it with over 100 pictures so far. It's my new best friend. Send me your picture, then you edit it to add a white BG, post it on here so we can see how crappy the cut out is. then I will do the same. I'll hold my breath until you send the picture, :: Takes a deep breath in:: OKAY GO
