Mistakes do happen, of course, but when you've been through validation dozens of times (and ALL top 5 entries are validated, not just passed along), you get a pretty good handle on "how much is too much." As such, when the more experienced members are disqualified, it's usually either early in their memberships or due to an accident (incorrect camera date, thought a Basic challenge was Advanced, etc.). They also tend to ask for SC opinions before cloning out something that might be questionable. Although it does happen, it's highly unusual for a long-timer to be DQ'd for cloning out a major element simply because they understand the limits better than less experienced members. That's not SC favoritism ΓΆ€” it's user knowledge.

I think this thread should be closed due to the black helicopters that are circling overhead.....

Yes, but giving a user the benefit of the doubt based on past experience is definitely favoritism on some level. I mean would I be awarded the same benefit of the doubt, probably not. I mean I guess nobody can ever know if there is any favoritism or not, I mean im sure there is, as thats just the way life works, but it is what it is, and that is indeed life.

Attention has been brought to an infraction, and nopw, many will be able to see whether site fav's are given more leeway, based on who they are and where they stand, by SC.

The photo has now been validated ΓΆ€” unanimously ΓΆ€” and therefore proven to have no infraction. As far as validation goes, it makes no difference whatsoever who the photographer was.

Truth be told, most of us would like to limit Irene to shooting with one hand tied behind her back just to even the playing field a little. ;-) (just kidding, Irene!)

I think the ribbon hogs are more scrutinized than others just because they tend to win so often.

it's funny to me that so many people around here think that the only trolling that goes on is a subset of voters giving every photo in a challenge a low score. you guys don't spend enough time on other forums ;)

Congrats to Irene on her winning image and on her winning show of class by not showing up here and defending herself against this silly stuff.

You go, Girl! :)

Who said anything about giving the benefit of the doubt? I said that more experienced members tend to better understand the limits, but nothing about being judged any differently. Heck, GeneralE has been disqualified twice in the past 6 months. So much for playing favorites! You either have the original or you don't, and if you don't it's a DQ. You either spot edited in Basic or you didn't, and if you did that's a DQ. You either cloned out something major or you didn't, and in this case the SC unanimously judged the logo to be a minor distraction that does not change the context or composition of the entry.

Neither ajdelaware nor rugman1969 have participated in a challenge here for well over a year now, yet they are still hanging around.

Must be a good site to keep them interested in it that long while not participating...

I've had a messy DQ (and a clean DQ) and yet still, I love this place. Not everyone is perfect here, yet we're happy here.

Let's move on, 'k?

The OP, with all due respect, hasn't entered a challenge (and therefore hasn't edited for a challenge) in over a year, unless he has an entry currently in voting. Those who have top five finishers this week (and every week) submit for validation regardless of who they are or who says what. And no, I don't really have a point, now that you mention it.... :-)

Don't make assumptions! I don't enter the challenges because my style for the most part doesn't mesh well with what is the generally accepted style of of DPC. In addition, just because I don't enter a challenge doesn't mean I can't have an opinion. Im not a musician but I can tell you if I don't like a song.

Plus the occasional business forum info is what keeps me coming back, plus watching/getting people fired up over digital ribbons is always a good read.

Hahaha...the photo has now been validated - unanimously...WHAT A SURPRISE ! Post the original photo with the big glob of a logo ON THE SUBJECT so I can laugh my ass off at SC. Like I said before, that logo would have changed the whole way the distributions of the votes. You would have seen many more 5's in the tally.

From past experience on reading comments from DPC members here are some comments you would have seen on this photo....IMO OF COURSE....

Oooo such a beautiful picture, too bad about the logo...

Oooooo what a nice entry, would have given a 10 but that logo just prevents me from doing so...

Ooooooo great shot..nice lines...but that logo leads my eye to one spot on the photo...I can't get past it....

Oooooooooooooooooo

Please Irene...post the original so I can laugh at SC. What a Joke.

Thanks to Rugman for bringing this up. I also like what you posted on Kennedy and Lebovitz (sp?). Keep probing the site Rugman...keep SC honest........BAAahahahahhah.

Wikipedia's Definition of a Troll In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

i give you a 6/10 but you are not the best i've seen. have you tried it over at fark.com or similar places? it would be a good place to hone your skills

Fark is for geeks and losers man. Its 2009, get out of there. And im hardly a troll. And if I was, I'd be 10 out of 10, but would get banned from this joint in a heart beat. Im quite guarded and rarely outrageous on here, because the sensitivity and conservatism levels are quite high!

That being said...FREE MUMIA.

The rule doesn't state the that cloning out of something must be unnocitibale from the original. Of course it would be distraction and probably hurt the score. That's most likely why she cloned it out, and it's perfectly legal.

Otherwise, why allow any removal of anything that was in the original image, like power lines?

This is one of the reasons that I have not participated in so long. Either people voting somehow know who's photo they are voting on, or because things like this go on. If I had edited my photo in this manner, I would have been dq'd, because I am definitely not a site fav. Favoritism takes all of the fun out of it. So know why I haven't participated in a challenge before you go spouting off about it.

Your argument was perfect for why it shouldn't be legal, because in your eyes, it would hvae effected the score because it was more than a minor element. In my opinion, a minor element, such as a powerline in the top corner of the image, or a dust spec, is something that wouldn't really effect the score if it had been there.

Haha, now you are getting a little " THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE"

I mean there are some photos that are clearly the style of a certain user, and that being said they probably do get a little higher vote from certain people, but for the most part, I think the voting is pretty genuine (minus the trolls with the 100% 1 voting.

Wow, this photo has been validated and is acceptable? Knew it from the beginning. Just glad to be able to show the blatant favoritism that happens around here finally. I know the other folks who tend to side with SC will not agree, but others who may be new, or just logical and fair will hopefully see this before they get their hopes up of doing well on here. This is one of the other reasons I do not enter challenges much anymore.

The forums are a side item to accompany the challenges and I'm glad to have them, but the site is a photography contest.

I disagree, a power line running through the top of the screen would be a distraction that lowers the score. Otherwise, why remove it?

WAIT YOU MEAN NOT EVERYONE USES THIS WEBSITE FOR THE SAME REASON YOU DO?! HOW DARE WE!

But seriously, the forum information, to me, is much more valid and beneficial then winning a ribbon ever could be.
