Doing decently and slowly climbing back up towards the magic 6. Maybe I should not bother fixing my SLR. I seem to do just as well with the Powershot S5.

Abstract typically means that form or color takes "precedence" in the viewers perception over the identity of the object. In other words, a photo may be of a tall building, with balconies (picking an example which shouldn't be in the challenge, since it's macro), and you may be able to recognize that. HOWEVER, when you look at it, you see the pattern that they form, more saliently than you see the "building with balconies". Same for color.

Agreed -- abstract does NOT have to mean unrecognizable (though I switched my recognizable shot for the more abstract shot last minute, so I'm safe...) Check out the Abstract Macro II challenge. Almost all of the top 20 in that challenge were recognizable, but they were certainly abstract in their composition and what was emphasized.

I know little to nothing about abstract art, but, imo, many of Picasso's paintings are abstract, but are recognizable.

btw, doing alright. Climbed a bit since bedtime last night. Wouldn't mind if it climbed some more :D

Catching up to you. It's probably about time for someone to come through and slam us all with 1's. (However, that seems to happen more in the open challenges, for obvious reasons.)

question: how do you edit the picture details during voting? I always see people with [update]'s and how do people know when they get another 1 or 2 vote or 8, or is that just people being too neurotic and calculating?

oh and you can tell what the main subject element is in my photo so my score will stay tanked, yay... but I would like some comments please, even if its, nice picture but lacking on the abstractness. Would be great thanks

You can update you details during voting by going into the photo via your profile.

You cannot edit the previously entered details during voting, but if you go to the image via your portfolio, you can add updates.

There are some spreadsheets floating around that can calculate the votes. I use the one Hawkeyelonewolf has linked on his profile page. Last time I checked, the link was bad. If is still is, PM me your e-mail and I will send you a working copy.

so I see no update button or w/e, looks the same before I were a member. I click the image title, takes me to a page where it states 'Image Not Currently Available' - 'This image is currently in the voting phase, it can be viewed here.' clicking the link takes me to the image, on that page is only: \n
for Advanced Editing Challenge Abstract Macro III\n This is your submission. (funny cause when i copied and pasted it came up as this [Challenge Details: N/A] in between the last two lines).

so it seems as if it doesn't think i'm a member i guess..idk I do have the update button on my homepage

You need to go to your portfolio, not your profile, and click on the picture. The you can add comments through there.

I think my picture is too abstract and too macro. Sigh... the dpc voter works in mysterious ways...

well that's just weird, those two words look alike and Karen misspoke first so I blame her.

Come on now, if you started pulling 6+'s, you would be upset that you were catering to mass appeal.

Well, at least you've GOT one: no matter how hard I (don't) try, I can't quite manage to get one...
