You can blame myself and  Ja-9 for this challenge. She posted on her facebook page that she had 3 Kirby's to sell. I suggested she hang onto them, as the moment she sells them, there will be an appliances challenge. I then went and posted the challenge suggestion. It got totally ignored in the forum, but apparently still got noticed!
A 6 and two 7's gives me a nice bump up to respectability.

But the 4's are still rolling in. Down to 5.1250. Maybe this will be my "love it or hate it" shot, with less 5's than 4's or 6's?

Damn I was really optimistic about my entry. But looking at other sunmissions (some of which are really nice) I'd be happy with top 10 which I also doubt.
I'm sitting at 5.6 area with 22 votes. Bummer :( |

Woke up to find my entry almost exactly where I expected, just slightly higher than it was when I went to bed. First comment hits me with the anticipated critique suggesting it's DNMC. Thanks for playing "DPC Bingo" with me!

Yeah... Both of my comments are just like that... Kind of irks me that people don't read the challenge description: "Creatively photograph a household appliance of any kind."
If there's a household appliance in the shot and it's creatively photographed, I'm thinkin' I hit the challenge square on.. .but no... *sigh*
In cases like this, I describe the image to myself, if the description includes the appliance, then I say it's a photo of an appliance. *sigh again*

I got hit with the 2 bandit and frankly I think he/she was being rather generous :-( . Creeping up now but what was I thinking when I submitted this photo? Trouble with me is before the competition close I resolve to submit the best shot I managed even if its rubbish, then after I regret it ... boo hoo !!! never again |

I don't usually complain about the comments I get. But honestly I hate it when i get a comment from Mr. anal retentive, who is on a mission to spot the imperfections in a basic editing challenge and has nothing else to say other than "oh there's a speck here and a pixel miscolored there." and absolutely nothing about the image creativity as a whole. Very frustrating when you've taken the time to put some thought into your image and try to come up with something a little different and creative.
Feels like a harsh "Spot the flaws" rather than a proper critique.
And god bless the 2 and 3's trolls.

I do understand your frustration, I had the same type of comments on my still life entry, and it bothered me that they couldn't look beyond something that was easily fixed if it was an advanced editing challenge.
However, later on I realized that it was very helpful advice, because in that case I could have done something about it. If I would have taken the time to check my background, backdrop, etc, instead of focusing primarily on the subject, I could have gotten a much better shot. Now that I've had that comment in a number of challenges, I'm a lot better at checking my setups.
Now, if it was something out of your control, then the comment is completely off base. Otherwise, I really do think the person is trying to be helpful. In the challenges on this site, a minor flaw can make a big difference in your placement, simply because there's so many wonderful images in any challenge. Many people won't score a good but flawed image as high as a good, well executed image. Especially if it was something the photographer should have noticed.

| I haven't been keeping up with individual low scores, but one of my 4 votes left a comment telling me why and their vote. While I don't care for the 4 of course, I do appreciate them telling me why. Have to respect that. |

I'm really appreciating receiving critical comments. Even the ones that I would have considered useless or uninformed a month ago have become very useful now. It shows that the photo really didn't resonate with them, but I know that they took the time to look and consider. It wasn't just someone hitting the buttons without really seeing the picture. |
