Ho hum!

Eeeps, I'm still seeing yellow spots before my eyes. Are you SURE there is a water drop in there? I couldn't find one. So, I think you should just go with the egg yolk defense(defence), and stay in the game. But that's just my opinion. the OP has the say, of course.

I'm in too. that is if I can get what used to be called a "flash attachment" for my camera as that appears to be needed to capture a water drop. The on-board flash apparently isn't enough.

Fooling with water drops has been on my 'to do' list for a long time.

I WOULD qualify, but I don't have an external flash. Poo!

you mean I started all of this and I can't even play!!!! I don't have a flash attachment!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(btw, I don't think that could possibly count as a drop--I couldn't even see it!)

ROFL, girl you have to figure things in your favor before you go off the deep end, hahaha! Maybe you and I should just throw bricks in a blow-up pool, so we possibly don't need a flash! :D

hey!! that's an idea!! how about someone doing a cannonball!

Do I really have to have a flash? can't I have lots and lots of light. Doesn't outdoor sunlight work? Please, someone, throw me a bone!

If you can use a fast enough shutter speed, you should be ok. I was kindof thinking the same thing! Tons of light and a fast shutter, but won't it get blown out???

My little macro flashes helped very little with the shot I posted on the first page of this thread. You just have to flood the scene with other sources of light and boost your shutter speed as fast as it goes. Don't expect the tack sharp drops you'd get with a flash, but I don't think mine came out too bad.

With the very fast shutter speed you'll probably not have a problem with blowing anything out. You're more likely to have a problem getting enough light in there.

I'm very honoured to have been asked by Wendy to judge this Side Challenge. Good luck to all and may the best five win.

This was in the whatever side challenge. Its the closest I have ever got to an actual droplet in a picture that isnt OOF or just plain pants!
(not a final one as Im tempted to try a few during the month)

I am going to try to play with some water drops this weekend - this will be fun!
08/05/2009 03:58:45 PM · #38

I suppose I will have to try one, just because I have never done it before. Maybe I can do a splash shot with my shoehorn while I'm at it.

Heres my first attempt...

I'm not in this challenge, but nature has a way of changing things. I know it isn't good, but, hey...it is a water drop:))

Look below the Swan's a**e:)

Just a shallow dish with food colouring for effect, white board behind it, flash just to the left and a ziplock baggie hanging above that I poked a tiny hole in with a fine needle to get a predictable drip going...

I should have shot the setup maybe, Im still experimenting on light placement but might try again tonight...

btw camera on tripod and using cable release as well.

I had to be a little different, but I'm sure a splash shot will suit the spirit of the thread.

Added: Went back and did a real drop shot. Also played with different colored items under the bowl.

Just to be clear does a grape drop (done badly) disqualify me :(

If a shoehorn goes, I would think a grape is safe.

I don't anticipate doing any better than this for the rest of the month ...

This was from my first session doing this kind of shot. I found it to be the most unique of all the shots that I found to be acceptable.
