I'm good, Hanneke - thanks for asking! And how are things with you? I've recently (as in yesterday) finally developed an appetite. I'm beginning to see, I think, why people say you will gain weight when you quit smoking. :-) Still not sleeping all night, but it is getting better, as in I only wake up 2 or 3 times now.

Deb you are my hero. For people that see immediate results its a no brainer. You have stuck it out in spite of no real feeling of accomplishment. I am so hoping that it turns around soon for you. In the long run it is such a wonderful thing.

Successfully made it through Day 12. Yippee!!

Latest in the "who knew smoking was GOOD for you?" discoveries - apparently smoking subdues all the nasty bacteria in your mouth. When you quit smoking, suddenly you get wicked sore spots on the roof of your mouth, your tongue, you name it. Delightful. Not. Also, apparently the poisons and nicotine in cigarettes serve as a suppressant to skin flare-ups. When you quit, your skin breaks out like crazy. Joy! Not.

But I'm sticking with it... Don't know why, other than I've convinced myself I should!

I will say that smokers are my new best friends... I LOVE them. I follow them around... LOVE them... Thank goodness for second-hand smoke! :-)

Just two more days to go, Deb, and that will be a full fortnight! Keep in there.

Day 1 for me and Ive told myself the same thing. Reading your posts is helping me keep my mind off lighting up. And I smoke(d?) A LOT. close to 2 packs a day and on weekends over 2. I had quit for 2 years and started again about 3 years ago. My biggest mistake was thinking that Im not a smoker anymore and I could have just one cig no problem.

I used to dream that I was smoking all the time.

Good luck to you, looks like you doing great! I like your attitude, and yes second hand smoke smells so good heh

Welcome to the madness, Panos! You can do this - you already have so you know you can. And you already know it totally sucks, so that part is covered, too. And hey, dreaming or second hand smoke - still better than nothing, right? :-)

I sniff at hubby when he comes back inside after smoking.. that's bad, huh! lol

Anyway, all good here. No fuss, just some extra pounds. Hope to get rid of them real soon. I love to eat right now. Everything. Yuk.

It's festival time in my little town. I'm on my second bag of sugar-coated roasted almonds... :-)

Edit to add that I also rode 22 miles on my bike today. That might cover half of the first bag of almonds, think?

LOL, your poor wife! Hang in there, though, for your child's sake.

I am on Day 20! Yeah! I have gained a bit of weight though. I can't stop loving food right now - I am absolutely stuck on salty things: Crackers, Hummus, Almonds and other nuts - all those yummy salty fattening snacky foods! But hey - at least I am not smoking! And I am trying to keep my snacking at least to the 'healthier' snacks. I do need to start some form of cardio now that I can breath without my chest hurting! Maybe then I will start to loose some weight.

Boy my sense of smell has increased! I am really enjoying the smell of fresh cut grass, lilac, rain, etc. But I think what is worse is that I am smelling the bad smells more. I realized over the past couple of weeks how bad my office building smells, and how bad (really bad) some of my coworkers smell! That is what sucks about the increase in sense of smell!

Hang in there, kolasi! You and your kid can have tantrum competitions. Could be very entertaining!

Amanda, I know what you mean about smells. I can now smell where people walk their dogs. Not necessarily a skill I wanted to increase, mind you.... That, and when I ride through the vineyards, it's quite easy to pick up where they've just put down fresh manure. And congrats on day 20!! That's awesome!

How are the early June folks doing? Still hanging in there?

Oh, and Sara - I've made my fortnight! :-)

1 month, 1 week, and 5 days smober... and today is my birthday :D

I think I've made it to the point where I consider myself a non-smoker, instead of a smoker trying to quit.

My friend who smokes visits occasionally and we talk about how jealous we are of each other.

Weight loss is another story. I seem to be up and down, but every time I go down, it goes a little farther than last time. I'm currently 157... started at 165 for the beginning of this challenge, but was at 178 when I had previously started eating healthier in April. Still need to get off my ass more.

As far as craving food, I keep a lot of strong tasting snacks around 'cause a little will go a long way. Garlic or jalapeno stuffed olives, hot cauliflower, and lemons are my favorite snacks as they give my taste buds the jolt they seem to be looking for and don't have the calories.

Cynthia, that's awesome on all fronts - HUGE congratulations and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Do you have a bike? If not, might I suggest that's what you get for your birthday? I have to admit that getting a bike a few years back was the single nicest thing I've done for myself. It really is a blast to go bike riding, especially if you can find trails or a park or somewhere away from the roads if possible. You get to see places you don't see from the car, and it gets you to more places faster than just walking.

I have made it to the 6 month mark. Half of a year of being a non-smoker, never in my life did I think that I would say that. I have also lost another 3 pounds. Still wish I had a trainer to get my lazy butt out the door.

Has anyone seen AmeedEl-Ghoul, isn't he supposed to be our fearless leader in this adventure???????

Regardless, I think everyone is doing great and things are ticking along.

People are still keeping the smoking in check and the weight is starting to come off. Nice work everyone :)

All the best and here's to continued success.

MAX!

Day 9?

Finally decided to try shortly after posting pics of Greeks smoking... Survived a full day and night well into the a.m.-s of hanging...drinks and cards last saturday while being the only who quit smoking... MAN that sucked....

I stopped smoking on Sun, 28 Jun 2009 13:35:00 GMT.
It has been 2 weeks, 4 days, 7 hours, 27 minutes and 49 seconds since I quit.
I have saved $ 101.08 by choosing not to smoke 421 cigarettes.

Have I told you guys I feel great? :D

Hey Iraklis - welcome to the nightmare!!! Glad to have you here. And yep, sucks. And I HATE it when people say "Oh, it'll get better". But it really does.

Day 17 for me. Mostly I'm trying to figure out just what the heck non-smokers do when they're waiting, or bored, or just hanging out. That's when I really miss my little ciggy buddies - waiting for someone or something or just waiting in general. That and when I need a break on the computer at home. The home part, however, is being remedied by stretching and playing with the cats. Now to work on the "waiting" part....

Haven't added any weight yet, but also rode 80 miles this week on my bike, so that may be helping a bit.
