Today I've reached a milestone of 90,000 votes cast and have resolved to vote as much as I can this summer to hopefully reach 6 figures.
However,This achievement got me thinking and made me realize that voting is the most important part of DPC. I can't imagine the site having the success it's achieved without the voters. Sure I believe that submitting and commenting is important but what if we posted photos and no one voted? The great(and budding great) photographers would have a very skewed idea of what other photographers thought of their self expression. Also it would give them nothing to complain about in the forums ;P. How boring would the update button be?
So while there may be a bit of patting myself on the back in this post, my main intention is to thank the people who vote challenge after challenge, week after week. Because the scores determined by the voters is what really drives this site.
So thank you! And keep voting! |

I care. Thank you for voting. Even more than comments, it's what fuels this website. And often my headache.

90K votes is an acheivement, and no doubt, you have probably voted on some of mine then too. Thank you for the votes.
I feel embarassed that I only have 12 thousand... I have a lot of work to do. It is now my goal to reach 20,000 by the end of the year. |

Unfortunately, I'm a notorious thread-killer, but am risking it to thank you (and all other voters). I, too, will intend to vote more between now and the end of the year.
Thank you! |

You're right as rain about no voters no DPC. There are a few people around here who are way behind in voting... |

I vote on at least 50# of the challenge entries, sometimes 100#. As for commenting, I give more than recieve for sure! :)
But in 195 challenges which is close to how many Neophyte entered, I don't come close to the 90,000. Thanks for your time.

I vote sometimes. Therefore sometimes I am.
Lately (past year or so), this is what happens: It's rollover night, I comment on some of the new winners on the front page and maybe a bit deeper, then I return to the home page and look at the challenges that just moved into voting - sometimes the challenge topic piques my interest and I look at the thumbs, click on one that catches my attention, make a comment and then I have to leave a score and then the next pic pops up, so I vote on that and on and on until I reach 100%.
I currently have given 35k+ votes. Not nearly as many as the OP, but I do what I can. Good to encourage / remind people like me occasionally with threads like this. |

I am not a big fan of voting anymore, but I see the necessity. Therefore I try to keep the number of votes cast close to the amount of votes received. That's fair I guess. |

I try to vote often, I've been here since May of 2008, but didn't really start participating until September. Here's my breakdown
Challenges Entered: 15
Votes Cast: 7,807
I've entered 15 challenges, with a total of 2883 entries. So that means I've voted on roughly 5000 entries to challenges I didn't participate in. I think voting is the most pivotal part of not only helping this website become a better place, but it is vital to help one learn what and how to achieve the wow factor. Every challenge that I vote on, I try to predict the ribbons and top 10's. Over the past month I have been pretty accurate, and consequently, I have become better at judging my own photos. Notice I got my first 6 this past month, and got another one the same week. I directly attribute that to being able to better critique my own photos, and I was able to get better at this by critiquing others photos. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to Neophyte and to all the others, who vote and comment. I really does make this site a better place for all... |

I need to vote more and participate in more challenges, BUT, I don't believe voting is the most important part of DPC. The site and community offer so much more for me. Side Challenges and lurking to view and drool over great work are my favorite aspects of DPC. Side challenges have expanded my horizons... lensbabies, film, pinholes and zoneplates are just a few examples that have raised my enthusiasm for our craft. Just MHO.
Nevertheless, I recognize your commitment to the site is critical to its success, and I know I can do more. Thanks for the efforts!
Edited to add- I MUST comment more as well!

You have a right to your opinion. If you were to remove any of the features that you mention from the site, it would still be very popular. While those elements add to the site, if you wwere to take away the votes this site would be a shell of what it is now. |

I am thankful for voters like yourself and others that have been diligent in voting. You have been here one year less than I have and voted 4 times as much. I don't know why I don't vote more other than to say I only vote when I'm relaxed and have nothing stressful on my mind. I feel that outside obstructions could influence my vote and I would not want that to happen. My mere 22K votes are small compared to a lot of voters but I believe I have cast each and everyone of them fairly without bias or predigest. So I would like to thank not only the voters but the photographers that regularly enter challenges. We [votes] learn just as much while voting as we do entering.
Thanks to everyone.
Scott

Good point. You are right. It's the challenges that brought me to the site in the first place, and what are they without voters? I wasn't clear... I spend most of my time outside of the challenges. It's where I have the most fun. Guys like you and the others who vote often, comment often and well, and participate day in and out on a high level are DPC and without you I wouldn't have my play area. Hopefully though, as a dues paying, irregular hobbyist I'm not considered a slug. |

No, I'm not infering that anyone is not "doing what they should". There is no negative about this. I'm not calling anyone out. Every vote is important. I'm just saying thanks. |

10-4. Thanks.
Now if I could only STOP the voting on my current entry my score wouldn't keep falling! (kidding of course) |
