Has anyone heard of any deals going on now for fast CF and SD cards?I'm looking for 8GB of both and 150X or faster. I have a 16GB kingston that is plenty of storage, but transfer rate from my 1DsMKII isn't so good. I'm looking to put a new 8gb or 16GB sd and CF card in both of my cameras. I'd prefer 8gb because that is just about what I use on a busy day. Thanks

Sandisk is having a up to 3x rebate on SD and CF cards, you'll just need to search around and try to find the best price on the cards that you can (from one of the authorized retailers on the rebate form, which can be found on Abes of Maine's website). That thread seems to indicate that Abes of Maine is best for that particular size of CF- I got my 4gb SDs from Beach Camera a couple weeks back (under the same rebate, just with different eligibility dates).

| If you're concerned with transfer rates (particularly with bursts in RAW format), you'll be better off with 4GB cards. Within the same media, larger cards tend to be noticeably slower than smaller ones. For example, an 8GB Sandisk Ultra II writes at 4.3MB/sec on your camera, while the 4GB version writes at 6.25MB/sec. |

Wow, I never knew that. I have four 4gig CF cards and was thinking about getting a couple of 8's... Glad I didn't.
Back to the topic at hand, last I saw Costco has a 2 pack of the Sandisk ultra II 4gb compact flash cards for 28.99. I'm not sure if that sale ended though... |

Actually I'm referring to transfer rate from the camera to PC. I don't remember ever filling the buffer on either of my cameras when shooting, but the 1DsMKII has pretty big files and on the card I have now the transfer rate to the PC is noticably slower then with the 8GB Sandisk when I move it into it.

| In that case, maybe a better card reader is in order? A 16GB Kingston Elite Pro transfers at 26.4MB/sec with a high-end Lexar USB 2.0 reader, but 33.8MB/sec with a SanDisk Extreme Firewire reader. That's fairly typical of the difference between USB and Firewire although a few cards (notably the SanDisk Extreme III series) don't follow the same pattern. |

I don't use a card reader at all. I don't remove cards from my cameras at all(unless I'm testing something for an issue). I can use a CF and SD card in both of my cameras at the same time, no need to take a chance bending a pin or forgetting to put a card back in when I am done. So the transfer is done with the 1DMKIII with a USB and the 1DsMKII is done with firewire.

I've got a 16gb Kingston I'll give you.
I make no promises about whether or not it will actually work, though. ;) But, if you have recovery software, you should be fine. hhahaha |

LOL no thanks Karma, I remember your issue with yours. Has Kingston offered to replace it now that you have your photos off it? I still have the package for mine and the receipt as well, they aren't that old and should be under warranty for you.

I emailed them, explained the situation, and was basically told, "Don't use that any more. Get a new one." and that was it. . . .
oh well.
i think I would rather have multiple smaller ones anyway, though the 16 was good at times. |

It is unfortunately over now but Sandisk just had some progressive rebates (more you buy, the bigger the rebate up to three cards). I got three 4gb Extreme III SDHC cards through BH Photo for just over $100 but that is before a $60 rebate which made it about $45 for all three. Rated at 20mb/ sec. Staples had the same card for $65 EACH! I think beyond a certain point that the camera is not any faster but your download times can be quicker with faster speed cards. //www.NewEgg.com can have good prices on memory. I have bought from them in the past.

Somewhat right, yet somewhat wrong.. I got in on it when you did too, and that rebate did end.. but then an identical one started the next day! You just have to use a different form from the first one, but all the deals are actually the same (I would assume though that if we did the first one we're not eligible for the second)
