Kudos to you for actually being one of the few entries that exemplified the challenge. Many shots in that challenge are not "Never before Seen". Yours however did fit the challenge to a TEE!

I HAVE NEVER SEEN EXPERT EDITING LIKE THAT BEFORE!

Keep it up!!

Man, just reminds us that we just can't win, doesn't it?

Kudos to you for taking a DQ with some diginity and respect and being open and forthright with your entry.

Keep an eye for when those 'expert editing' challenges come up (once your suspension is done), you should do well with those.

I'm just surprised that if you got dq'd once, that you wouldn't bother to go back and read the rules so it wouldn't happen again. Most people would get paranoid after the first dq and follow the rules very carefully. Hopefully this doesn't show a disregard for said rules.

May be a small minority, but I don't think many. I hope my comments haven't been misunderatood as a problem with the subject matter. I only said that I wasn't convinced it was real and that I had a different reaction to it. This subject has been seen before at DPC. Check out Eva2k0's image called "Beauty and the Beast (Surviving Breast Cancer)". I'd link it but it maybe borderline NSFW and I don't want to mess-up this thread. Her shot is a beautiful and realistice view of the the effects of cancer. There are others if you search.

Once again, no disrespect to Susie or her cray-good editing skills. Its a great photo.

Sorry, but I am being really thick tonight. Just what was the trickery involved here. I have looked at the photo details and see nothing, in this thread people are going on about being duped by a 'bald cancer sufferer', but can someone explain the steps that got this DQ'd??

From what I gathered, the shots with the skull cap are the original -- she photoshopped the edge and wrinkles of the skull cap.

Plus she 'shopped the skullcap area to look like skin. Crazy-good job she did, for sure.

In Susies photo, she edited out the skull cap and the hair, which is considered a major element, and thus, cannot be cloned out.

Right, my brain has caught up with the rest of the world on this Friday night??

However, I really think this nit picking when others can clone out telegraph poles and wires, etc. Also, this was and still is a powerful image. I hope we see more from this young lady in the future.

A background wire or pole along the edge of a photo is more of a minor distraction than a subject. Here, the entry is "about" the bald head, making that a highly prominent part of the image.

i so agree with you there, its like how they photoshop underwear out from women to make it look like they dont wear panties.. I would never do anything like that.. hahaha

What?!!! They can do that? That's a buzz-kill right there for sure....

In the meantime, although the DQ was justified, I would like to see a challenge where such talents can be put to the test.

That is some amazing work you've done. It would be interesting to see what the people here could do, once let off the leash.

There's one in voting right now.....the Michael Jackson song title/lyrics challenge is expert editing. You can practically do what you want there.

I not exactly clear on what you are asking?

should the photo had been legal and not DQ'ed, i'm more interested to find out how it would have scored had it not had gathered sympathy votes?

Karmat, certainly not knowing what was in brianr's mind, how I read his question:

Would the editing that Digital_Susie did be "legal" in Advanced Editing?

Actually, I think he is asking if the edit he did would be legal in advanced editing, looks like he upped the curves/contrast to make the skull cap completely white and disappear into the background.

It would probably be legal but it certainly isn't close to Susie's finished photo and doesn't have the same impact. You can still see parts of the skull cap and her hair.

Dang, you're right, KarenNfld, so I guess I'll ask the question on my own:

Want to get high mileage out of a challenge entry? Get a DQ, boast about it, and end up getting more attention / feedback than the ribbon winners that deserve the attention for following the rules. ???
