So, I was one of the 11,000 that was chosen for two tickets at the Staples Center for MJ's memorial service. I just went through the formal online registration process and have printed out my Ticketmaster voucher. All I have to do is to go down to Dodger Stadium tomorrow (Monday) and pick up the two tickets and two wristbands.
I wonder how much I can get for them on eBay? ;-)

My word! I hope my family doesn't charge for tickets to the end of my dead body.
How awful is that?! |

Wait wait wait... WHAT... OK, I've been on vacation since Wednesday but what the heck is this about.. I didn't even know they had decided on a memorial service.. Now, they're doing a funeral at the Staple Center for people to attend that WIN tickets through a GIVE-A-WAY... WTF is going on.. is this seriously his funeral or is this just some promoters way of doing a "memorial" to sucker his fans into spending money ?? I'm confused.
edit to say, not judging anyone for going.. lol.. just was shocked that #1, I haven't heard anything about this and #2, is this really his actualy funeral with his family too ??? still confused.. lol

It's a real memorial service, believe it or not. The tickets were/are being distributed randomly for free. There were over 1.6 million people that registered for the drawing and only 8,750 pairs of tickets were going to be given out.
Here's an article about it.

Oh I'm thinking money also. Create more hype for MJ memorabilia and the "Michael Jackson Memorial Service Special Edition DVD" soon to be released.
We spent the 4th in DC and saw at least several tables of MF stuff people were cashing in on.
My initial thought was along the lines of what Les posted and how much could be made on ebay.

Forget eBay, I just found out that when folks pick up their actual tickets at Dodger Stadium tomorrow (Monday) they will have a wrist band put on them. They have to have that band on for Tuesday's services at the Staples Center--meaning you have to wear your wristband for the whole time between picking up the tickets and getting in the Staples Center.
Well, at least the ticket stubs and used wrist band may be worth something on eBay after the fact.

I was just gonna say, I thought I read exactly this in that article you posted.. And, I just checked ebay.. People are selling used concert tickets and they're trying to get thousands for them.. Looks like the one worth anything at least the one they're bidding on is the Pepsi commercial one.. So, if history holds true, anything related to a tragedy will sell.. You probably will be able to get a few bucks when it's all said and done.. |

No, you're not alone.
I was tired of hearing about his death two minutes after I heard about his death. And the wave of dread knowing all that would ensue unhinged me a bit. Needless to say, I haven't been let down. Can't wait for the legal battles (hopefully, I'm wrong).
Tickets to a Funeral/Memorial? Seems so odd to me but I suppose it shouldn't.
Even in death, the guy could make a pretty buck or at least his family will.
Did anyone see Joe Jacksons first press conference (w/Sharptongue by his side) ? He appeared quite happy about the whole thing.
I just don't know anymore...

Micheal Jackson produced some fabulous music, but we have to admit he was a failure as a human being.....drugs, allegations of child abuse, financial failure, and obvious psychological problems with all the plastic surgery.
Most of us probably would have suffered some problems as well under the constant pressure that celebrities are under. I can appreciate celebrating the music, but not the person.

I think there's already a "bash Michael Jackson" thread or two going. So I'll just say congrats to Les on getting the tickets. I hope you enjoy it. It's not something I'd want to attend, mainly because the city will cordon off the area around the Center for blocks. They are actively warning non-ticket holders to stay away. In other words, it's going to be the usual madhouse/police-state that you get when you cram too many people into one space and have to control it. |

I'm sure cameras won't be allowed. Probably a few will sneak in some tiny ones, but I bet it'll be worse than passenger check in at LaGuardia!! |

I could not believe how much the ticket are selling for on ebay. I can't help but believe these auctions are scams. Who would pay that price.

I am selling advanced tickets to my funeral. Act now and get the limited access open casket viewing pass. I plan on dying in a horrendous explosion, so the viewing is not for the squeamish.
Congrats, Les. ...I guess. |

You get two tickets though... so you could sell the companion ticket and just have that person meet you to pick them up... (my cut is 25% for that advice!) |

I honestly feel bad that the family is trying to make money off of the death of MJ, I feel that they should just let him rest in peace. I also am sick of hearing about it in the day to day news that people have been watching these past few weeks.
I find it sad that the soldiers in Iraq and Afgahanstan got little to no news coverage and they are risking their lives daily for others while this guy, granted being a great musican and performer has hogged the airways for weeks since his death. |

That's a ridiculous statement, he hasn't "hogged" anything, he's DEAD. The media have swooped on his death like vultures, as would be expected. The citizenry have demonstarted a continuing obsession with him, as expected. But it ain't his fault, nor his family's...

Ok, I will retract that statement and say that the media has been publicizing his death to the point that can make a person ill. They should let the guy rest in peace and stop talking about him like he is the greatest thing in the world. They should focus on the more inportant things in the world other than the dead. Fore the living are the ones who have to continue in this world, and will have to do it blindly beacause media is to busy covering the dead guys story.... |

That's what happens when you get left out of the will LOL.
The whole thing is turning out to be a big marketing tool for his stuff. He's probably made more money in the last 10 days than he has in the last 10 years. Get it over with for Christ sakes. He's been dead for almost 2 f'in weeks now.
