Hi:
I have been admiring some of the images in the photo impressionism gallery and would like to know some of the techniques used to create the images? I know I have always used a glow filter or some kind of overlay technique to try to create it, but there must be other ways to do it. Anybody willing to share some of their tips and tricks? Or perhaps I can be referred to a website that might discuss this in more depth. |

I've done it with camera movement while the shutter is open.
A good book on the subject is this:

Are you a photojournalist, recording objective reality objectively, or are you an imipressionist, recording the truth & reality of feeling? There's more to photo impressionism than PP.
This book does look interesting. Thanks cpanaioti
Of the 3 you posted, I like this one because it makes me think of the rose in terms of a tree (because of the BG), straight & tall & determined. But much smaller.

If you're interested, I could tell you how I did this. It was pretty easy if I remember, but I'd have to look at the .psd file.

In answer to your question, since I am not a photojournalist I guess I fall into the other category. Not sure how to achieve it, but if I cannot record the truth and reality of feeling, I hope it will come to me as I learn a bit more. To me that is the more honest way to use impressionism. I have already been recording objective reality objectively. Now it is time to expand and try to capture the essence and soul of truth and reality through an emotional bond with the photos I take. |

Sure, let me know. Did you apply a fine art conversion filter? I have a program that does that. It is great fun because I can change the strokes and appearance of any photo with a slider and the touch of a button. Now if I could just paint like that. |
