I tend to use my longer lens so that I'm not in people's faces (yet for the swimming shots, I can get right in their face!) For the lugging around place to place, I do have my own 6-3.5 200lbs buy :) Although, since this is for 20th anniversary, he's obviously not 23!
This is so much better than reading the reviews! (which I've also done) It's so nice to have real-life experiences! Thanks again! |

BTW I forgot both times I posted.
Congrats on 20 years. My wife and I celebrated 18 on Monday, in this day and age that is becoming far from the norm.

all my shots are handheld with it.
This was taken at 1/80 sec
and this was even slower !!
If memory serves me correctly that was 1/60 or slower.
p.s. - I'm not 23 either . .

If you put it on any kind of monopod (or tripod) you will be fine. So that is a another option. |

It's f11 at 1/250, but I get the same quality even if it's 1/1000. The only thing I have to compare it to is my 100mm 2.8 prime. at 1:1 it's spectacular. I realize primes are better, but would this shot turn out clearer, cleaner on a 100-400L? |

Here are two 100% crops at 300mm for the 70-300 I have in my workshop:
  both of these are RAW, shot at ISO200
Here is an almost 100% crop jpeg, straight out of camera with sharpening and color boost on:
I honestly think either your focus was off or you have a bad copy of a 70-300. |

i have to agree with  dahkota on this one. i'll take a look at some of my shots from the 70-300 at 1:1 when i get a chance tonight and see for sure, but i'm nearly 100% positive |

I used to have the 70-300 and the quality that I get with the 100-400 is so much better!! Most of the time don't use a tripod with this lens, but my arm gest tired sometimes
 a did crop this one a lot
these I took them for the overlay side challenge
