I was curious to see how many members on here have taken pictures of fire or rescue grounds. Primarily, that is all I shoot but I have dabbled in other subjects and I am learning slowly.
The above picture was photographed with a Canon EOS 20D in 2006. It was featured in Fire House Magazine under the "Fire Fronts" section. It was quite a thrill to see my picture in such a well circulated magazine. Anyway, I would like to see everyone's pictures so add them on to the thread. |

I'm the photographer for my local Fire Department. If I'm not busy fighting fire or doing rescue I've got my camera going. I have some pics in my portfolio, but more in my flickr account. |

Some nice shots Nathan. I especially liked the shots of the bus training with the sparks flying. |

Yeah, I work for the local bus company as my "day job." They were junking a bus and we snagged it. Turns out it's not easy getting into a bus if you don't use the doors or windows. Seriously, it's not easy!!! The circular saw was fun, but not the way to go if you ever had to cut into a bus. An air chisel would work better (safety wise).
They are junking a bunch of buses again this year, but they are shipping them south first, so we don't get another bus. *pout* We still have the other one though if we really want to mess around. *grin* |

I got some good shots a couple years ago when an elementary school went up but I don't have any of them online. Hubby was a firefighter for 13 years but retired about the time I got into digital photography. Couldn't afford to shoot film, so no shots from firetruck chasing :( |

.....
I was in my truck going somewhere & stopped to shoot this. I figured out the fire was set by the fire dept, for practice. Nobody lived there any more. |

One of my favorite all time shots. This FF attempted to make an ill advised rescue through a wall of fire. He only lasted about 15 seconds inside which would have been 13 more then I could have lasted. I have to give him credite for trying though.

Nice stuff. This was my only newspaper shot. It was in 2004 of the Fire Chief making a 2nd floor save.

If our chief were to try and make a save like that we'd probably all die of shock. We generally keep our chief back as an administrator. He doesn't do much firefighting anymore. However, today he did do a lot of cow chasing. *grin* We had some cows get loose and were running all over Route 3. They never caught the cows this morning, but we caught one this afternoon. Not sure if they got the second one or not as I had to leave. |

No cows here. We aren't to far outside of Philadelphia. We get between 400-500 calls a year and are completely volunteer. We get all kinds of calls but no livestock chasing, lol. |

I can't remember how many calls we do off the top of my head. I know we do between 1,000 and 1,500 ambulance calls though. I think we're on par with you for fire calls though I can't be sure about that.
If I lived in a neighboring town I'd have all sorts of fire photo's as they have the largest number of structure fires(per capita) in the state. Highly depressed area with at least one, if not two, arsonists. |
