It quite a good deal - about $200 cheaper than you can buy it in most stores

If it is brand new then why this shady policy?

Indeed. For $200 more, I'd just buy it from B&H. When you're talking that much money for a camera body, what's a couple hundred more for piece-of-mind?

I get the feeling the original question was more along the lines of 'you don't pay $8000 for a camera do you, that's insane!'

That's what I thought, too once I actually looked at the link seeing how it's quoted on Dpreview as only $7300US. And yuppers, there are WAY more expensive cameras out there, but the quality us unequalled, these puppies aren't exactly point-and-shoots.
