Just curious if any of you draw as well as take photographs. I am finding huge enjoyment in it and looking for people to swap war stories and hints/tips with :) |

i have to draw portrait of my daughter as soon as i get some time from life.
yes i do draw sometimes, usually avoid because it is easier thing to do.
ps: if you watch rough science on bbc. i once did Kathy Sykes' portrait. She said she put it in her office and it looks cool.

I used to draw a lot when I was little, but it wasn't until I took some charcoal classes in college that I realized how much I liked it. Of course that was 20 years ago. I've got plenty of shoe boxes of different media. I really have been meaning to break them out again. |

I just ordered a wacom tablet today... now I REALLY can't wait.
Also, can't wait to dig around and play with my pencils now too... been way too long. Moved around a couple of times lately and they tend to stay in their boxes. :/ |

I love to draw, but unfortunately I'm not very good at it. I've thought about picking up a pencil and trying some more sometime. |

I'm getting jealous - I can't draw to save my life!
Even my stick figures are unrecognizable :-( |

I've asked before in the forums about rotoscoping - it's drawing on a layer over a video - google it or try you tube. If you have a wacom tablet it's easier to trace. There is a cool contest called rotoball where someone recieves a ball, does something with it, and then throws it away - the video is uploaded to flash and traced....very cool! |

I like that idea Cynthia!! Let's do it! When? I do have to tell you though, it is time consuming business. How about 2 a week for 4 weeks? :D |

Just thinking out loud here but a pen tablet with the emphasis being on the pen sounds good. No rules after that..?! |

I like to draw too. What I found to be very, very helpful is this book:
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards.
It's gone through several printings by now, and is still as fresh as when it came out. I used
to keep several copies on hand to give to friends who "couldn't draw a straight line." (I can't either,
I use a ruler.)
I've lent my Waycom to a friend, so this side-challenge isn't for me, but I'll look in and see
what's happening if it happens, that is.
:-))

Same! That's the reason I got interested in photography. Turns out I can't take a picture any better than I can draw one :) |

Okay then, let's do it!
We can start Sunday if that's good for you guys. I would rather it not be a 1st to 1st thing as my husband is going to Romania mid-July and I'm afraid I won't have time to keep up.
I'll make a new thread for folks to sign up in and make a list of interested parties :) YAY! Fun! :) |

Does cartooning count? I used to draw anti-authority, politically incorrect cartoons in the Navy and at several jobs I had. Most of it was inside humor stuff (much like photoshop fun stuff I do on DPC). At my last duty station, there was a locker with dozens of my cartoons that lampooned the people in charge. The division officer (the one I mocked the most) recommended and awarded me a letter of commendation for my "Contribution to the Morale of the Department with my Humor" - he never saw what was in the locker - if he did, the citation would have been of a different variety. LOL
I haven't drawn in ages - not since I discovered digital photography and photoshop.
Sounds like a cool side challenge. I'll sit in the peanut gallery for this one for sure. |
