Speaking of falcons, I don't know if I posted this before or not (and am too lazy to go look), but this is a live feed of a peregrine falcon nesting box in Salt Lake City. It takes a few minutes (yes, minutes sometimes) to load, so if you get a black screen, just wait for a bit. They're getting big! There are two links - one is a corner of the box, where they stayed when they were smaller; the other shows more of the whole box, which is needed as they're wandering more now.

| It's fun when mama feeds them, though it does sadden me just a bit because mama feeds them pigeons, mostly. :-) When they were very little, she'd carefully take wee bits at a time to feed them (yes, the raw meat - no regurgitated feedings that I could tell) but now she just tears off hunks and they go at it, feathers and all. I just watched the little tykes being fed. I wouldn't know momma from pappa, but one adult turned up with the prey then adult #2 comes in, grabs the prey and starts tearing it up for the kiddies, so adult #1 goes off hunting again.
Really must get those pigeons on the endangered species list, Deb... |

Usually in birds of prey, the female is up to 1/3 bigger than the male, esp the bigger they get, like eagles. The analogy is that she's built more like a bomber, while he's built more like a jet plane. He has to be able to continue to hunt and provide while she looks after the kids, but may bring home bigger prey as a result.
PS Dare I say I am very veyry VERY proud of my Duotones entry? Or has that just jinxed it?

Argh!! at least you know what your duotone is! I'm back to choosing between 4. (actually, I think it's between 2, but it's still a hard decision.) |
