My wife says, "that I have a chemical addiction". "It just happens to be to photo chemicals".
I am a NIKON guy, 100%.
- D1x body (x2)
- D100 body
- 5700
- F100
- several original Nikon F cameras in mint condition
- Nikonos V
- various Nikon point and shoot models
- and a fleet of lenses as follows:
Nikkor 17-35 mm f2.8 D AFS
Nikkor 28-70 mm f2.8 D AFS
Nikkor 28-200mm f3.5-f5.6 D IF
Nikkor 80-200 mm f2.8 D AFS
Nikkor 80-400 mm f4.5-f5.6 D VR
Nikkor 28 mm f1.4 D Fast F-Stop
Nikkor 60 mm f2.8 D Micro
Nikkor 85 mm f1.4 D Fast F-Stop
Nikkor 105 mm f2.0 D DC
Nikkor 200 mm f4.0 D Micro
Nikkor 500 mm f8.0 M Catadioptric
Nikkor 1000 mm f11.0 M Catadioptric
Nikkor 50 mm F1.4 M Vintage
I also have two Hasselblad 501CMs, an X-Pan, and a bunch of Hassleblad lenses. Finally, I enjoy a bitchin' digital darkroom too that will work with 35mm, various digital file formats, 6cmx6cm, 24mmx65mm, and more.
All of this stuff - and still no ribbon, as I still pretty much suck at photography, but I do love the toys. Does it show?
Please don't rob me.
Hi, my name is Michael, and I have a problem...

I like my 717. Started with an S70 and decided I wanted more camera. I̢۪ve never used a dSLR so it was an easy choice, the digicam. Some shots I̢۪ve taken from ground level I could not have done without the swivel body. But must admit II would like the extra clarity of the 10D. I have also entered photos into Juried Art Shows from both cameras. And have been accepted in, no ribbons yet. Have to admit as of now I̢۪m just enjoying taking photos and Playing around with them in Photoshop.
It̢۪s more fun than serious.

It's a sickness. Truly, a sickness.
I studied photography in the mid-70's in Tokyo, Japan for two years. When I graduated and earned my diploma, I decided to purchase a camera system before I returned home. Japan was extremely inexpensive in those days, not like today.
I went on factory tours of Canon, Olympus and Nikon. Nikon was by far the most impressive, so I went with them. Before the factory visits, I was planning on an all Olympus OM-1 solution. But, when I saw Nikon making glass for their own optics and learned about the vastness and variety of their lens selection, I was sold. They also treated me incredibly well, considering I was just 20 years old and was a poor foreign student.
Over the years, you buy and sell, trade a little, and eventually you build a system. I have had other complete systems by Nikon too, based upon F2s, F3s, F5s, and others. I replaced the F5s to go to the D1x because I wanted auto focus and the little red exposure square in the viewfinder. My eyesight has deteriorated over the years and like many others at my age, focusing was a challenge. So, after 27 years, here I am.
My career is in communications engineering and I am a systems integrator as well as hold degrees in project management. So, let's just say it is in my instinctive nature to have a complete solution. If it is not a complete set, it is just not right. Maybe it is because I am a Virgo, who really knows? It's my fun.

I have a few cameras in my collection ;) Scabs-cameras
When i started shooting digital, I had a Sony F505V, the predessecor to the 707. I ended up outgrowing it and longing for features that I use to have on my film SLR.
Ive been collecting all types of cameras for quite awhile now. Most of them still work, and Im always picking one from the group to shoot with ;)

i had an e-10. it was great. ok, it didnt do low light very well, and it had a very slow, tiny little 4 shot buffer, which was hard when you were doing a fashion shoot and it filled up, and you're sitting there WAITING, trying to keep the energy up ..
but then one day, news came out that a dslr with d60 image quality was coming out for LESS. i'd long admired the d60, so i knew it was time for me to take the plunge!!!

Mirror lock up mainly
The remote timer release I have doesn't work with the 300D, though there is a simpler one - I've used some of the more advanced features of the timer (interval bursts, that sort of thing)
Spot metering in aperture priority mode, which I use all the time (easily 90% of the shots I take are in that mode)
I'm sure its a great camera, it just doesn't suit a lot of the photography I do. I have the same issues with the Rebel Ti film camera that I own.

Makes sense to me. I hear the little IR remote that's made for the Rebel is pretty slick, but haven't used it yet. It's nice that it's mannufactured into the camera rather than something you have to piggyback through a port accessible only when you take the battery out (like my coolpix) :P I do miss the spot metering, but the AE lock seems just as easy to me, and i think I make better use of it than i do with the spot metering on the Nikon.
thanks for the reply.

I bought my Pro 90 for it's 10x zoom with Image Stabilization. Features that I didn't understand/appreciate then but have come to love are the Continuous Auto Focus, the flip-out & twist LCD, and the fact that it has a fixed (as opposed to extending) lens barrel. It is heavy and slow but is built to last forever. Seems like most people here really like there cameras and I am very pleased with mine. I wouldn't mind having a 10D but can't imagine ever getting rid of this one. |

This is actually my 3rd digital camera (Olympus C90, Sony F505 and now the F717). I got the 717 mainly because my Sony points were expiring and needed to use them (I probably paid about $300 after I cashed in my points). I went and looked at the F717 and had to have it. I love the full manual and shutter/aperature priorities although I mainly use full manual. The lens is amazing although I'm not a fan of the F717's color abberation and barrel distortion. If you look at my "Wedding day" entry, I had a heck of a time trying to color correct the roses and it was very tough.
My first real camera was a Minolta X-700 so I am trying to get back to the SLR-type camera although I'm very spoiled by the real-time preview of the non SLR-type camera. If only there was a way to get a real-time preview with a DSLR, I'd get either the 10D or the E-1 right now, no questions asked. |
