it's where dpc members carry (or attempt to) all their photography gears on their back and run a 100m dash, followed by a camera throw to see who can flung their javelins... i mean camera bodies the furthest. this event is held once a year and the location is a rotated between the site council member's backyards.

No, you've got the javelin bit wrong - you use monopods. It is the shot put event where you throw the camera body. |

But of course the highlight of the games is the rugby derby between team Canon and team Nikon! |

That was a fever dream, crayon. Drink lots of fluids and stay in bed until it passes, OK?

That's only because that's all that Nikons are good for....why throw a perfectly good camera...nahh....we just steal all the Nikons from you lot for the event and then photograph the winning throw with the real cameras...the Canon's!!!

Reading this gave me an idea that I think might be kind of fun. I'd love to see something similar to a DPCO but have the teams be Team Olympus, Team Canon, Team Nikon..... just to see what would happen :) (let the comments begin...) |

Well, we sorta had that in the beginning, with Team Canon, Team Nikon, and Team Pentax competing, that I can remember; there may have been more. But of course there were non-camera-specific teams as well. Sort of had to be, since teams were limited in numbers of members...

Thanks Robert - that's something I don't even remember! I guess it was found to work out better with having teams by country then? |

LOL @ all of you.
The DPC Olympics is an unofficial event here, much fun!
Players sign up for teams and the teams compete against each other for highest scores each week.
Normally, the teammates all get together (online somewhere) and discuss each entry from their team (and then do not vote on their teammates entries, since that would be cheating).

Now, that right there is a good question.
Usually, when we have an Olympics, there is a fair amount of.... how shall we say... other than truely pleasant discussion about much of the details.
Once it starts, everything settles in, and we have a great time.
Dirt_Diver runs them, and it depends on how long it takes him to heal from the last one. Perhaps he will take this cue to gin one up. |

Other than the fact that everyone starts bitching that the scores suddenly seem to be so much lower than before the DPCO started....which they may in fact be, or perhaps we are being more sensitive because there is more pride on the line when your entry tanks and you feel bad about letting your team down. But other than that issue, it is indeed a lot of fun.
Also on the positive side, getting feedback about your entry from your team before submission, and modifying your entry accordingly, is a great learning experience. |

Well, we could do it by age
or hair color (or lack there of)
or eye color
elevation
highest grade in school
favorite food |
