Mark, when you first described it, I really couldn̢۪t imagine it, I thought .. ok it is going to taste a bet better, but that kick .. mate it was out of this world :)
I still can̢۪t believe it was just fruits?!! Apple don̢۪t taste that good? Or do they :) I̢۪ll find out tonight as I am going out after work to get 2 pounds of apple :)

I'm another who is looking at this thread. It's not the easiest thing in the world to accomplish.
You're doing it. Now, you might even think of yourself as a former smoker. How does THAT sound.
Pretty darned good, right.

Hi Alice, Oh yeah it feels good :) I am almost over it, the craving attacks are way less common now than before, I think this would be it if I kept my guards up and didn't submit to a single buff, then this would be it :) Thanks for your concern Alice, it is because of good people like yourself, people like me break their addiction :)

hey Ameed ..
i'm another person who's hoping you succeed ..
i was a very heavy smoker for most of my life and only gave up the first time coz i was so sick i nearly died ..
even then i was wanting a cigarette .!!. its a powerful addiction ..
then i was on and off them for about four years .. but always trying to stop ..
a couple of years ago i found out my daughter was smoking .. she was 18 at the time and had been hiding it from me for quite a while ..
the thing is before she started smoking herself she used to hide my cigarettes and was always telling me to give up and that it was bad for my health etc etc ..
so i was trying to stop but i was living with a smoker .. my daughter .. i wouldnt buy them but i'd be bludging hers all the time ..
i'm so glad that she gave up a few months ago .. so glad for her and also for me coz i havent had one since she stopped ..
thank goodness you want to be a good role model for your daughter ..
i'm with alice sfalice.. its such a good feeling to say you dont smoke ..
coz its bad on so many levels ..
your health for one .. and then there's the self esteem issue when you try to give them up and fail .. ppl beat themselves up when they should just try again .. often a failure can make success all the sweeter ..
the thing i found was helpful when i was giving up was totally believing that i could ..
imagining how i'd feel when i was no longer addicted ..
and saying to other ppl that this time i'd succeed ..
not being around smokers is a good idea when you're feeling that you might cave in .. if there's an emotional issue going on for eg ..
anyway .. i'll be checking in to see how you're going ..
and good luck .. !!
altho when i write 'good luck' i know luck has nothing to do with it .. !!
so instead i'll say .. all power to you .. !!!!!!! ..:)

PennyStreet and roz
Thanks allot for all your kind words, it is highly appreciated,
Hearing all these successful stories give me the fuel to continue, too bad we start caring about our health a bet late, when we could've maintained it from the beginning, I think part of being youth, is not knowing that our bodies are the most expensive and marvelous instruments that we'll ever owe.

how true .. we cant imagine ever getting sick if its never happened to us ..
then when, or if it does, it nearly takes us by surprise ..
regret can set in .. and the 'if only's' .. !!
the sad thing is that most of the time ppl dont learn from other ppl's mistakes .. we have to make them ouselves .. :)
anyhooooo .. i'm just pleased that someone else has kicked the habit .. go ameed ..!!..:)
you have quite the cheer squad happening here .. !!!!!!!!!!! .. :)

Month 1: Never Ever Ever thought I am going to make it this far, when I started I thought to give it an honest try, and here I am .. 30 days smoke free, not even a single buff, for the first time in the past 18 years, I am smoke free person. Craving no more unless I am around someone who is smoking. Yes I do miss smoking, it used to be fun, but sense I've quite smoking, everythign taste better, I smell better, I don't stink any more, blood pressure is back to normal, sleep shorter times, feel much better, wake up easier in the morning, energy level is 3 to 5 times more, and too many small details. Yes I am happy I did it, no regrets at all.
I am smoke free for1 month, 10 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds. 568 cigarettes not smoked. Life saved: 1 day, 23 hours, 20 minutes.
One thing that I mentioned at the (Quit Smoking – Weight Loss) 6 months Side Challenge that happend last Saturday. Saturday I was at This with my friends, we were having a blast with This, One of my friends was smoking one of This, he was honestly trying to avoid buffing my direction, but it happened, and I inhaled it all by accident, and started to look like This, thought about having one cigar .. but I remembered I have This, and that my goal is to look like This, which brought me back to reality, and happy to say I didn't slip yet.
The first month is over, I think from now on either biweekly or a monthly update will be done.
Just one note to my smokers frineds, if you just know what you are missing ..
My Goal for the next month, Keep my gurads up, never to slip not even once, and start working seriously on my weight loss program.
roz Can't thank you enough dear.
iamwoman Your encurragement is highly appreciated.
PennyStreet Thank you so much.
Cheers all and see ya in 2 or 4 weeks from now.

Month 2: Yep .. 2 months, 3 days. Cigarettes didn't smoke:1290 scary when you think about it, I don't want to calculate how many cigarettes I've smoked in the past 18 years.
Craving occasionally happens, doesn't last more than a minute and thats it. Like is much better without smoke, still my friends can't believe I am done with smoking.
Will continue posting till the new year 2010 :) |

Hey there, former smoker. Glad to hear that it feels good to be alive and well.
You were so right to keep your guard up. "Just one" and you're back to "Step One".
Keep it up!

AmeedEl-Ghoul glad to see that you are doing good on not smoking. It has been 6 months for me and each day gets easier. Now the lose weight issue not so easy. That takes more time and I think harder to do then to quit smoking. |

sfalice Hey Alice :) always wonderful to hear from you, honestly, I don't think I would be able to start all over again, no way, it is better to maintain where I am right now .. for life :0) can't go through all of this again .. so keeping my guards up, installed double firewalls and anticraving :)
BAMartin Hey Barbara, how you doing dear, I hope everything is going fine with you. She is happy, she keeps encouraging, she knows when I am having craving and makes it easier to go through it. At the same time she keep reminding me by the positive things we are having because of quitting smoking, usually in indirect way, like how good the car smell, it is good to watch an entire movie without interruption .. and sometimes in a direct way .. I am happy you don't stench any more :)
houstonian Thanks Katie, appreciate it :)
cosprenks hey Rosy, yep .. the weight loss, not having any success with it, this have to be the second biggest challenge .. specially with a busted back, it is going to be very hard .. but after quitting smoking .. I believe I can do anything .. just need to figure out how :) |

Well for me it has been three months, two weeks, one day, 6 hours, 27 minutes and 1 second since my last cigarette. I no longer even think of having a smoke unless there is a reminder (someone in a movie smoking, someone at work who smells of smoke). I am so proud of this group. You have not only done wonderful things for yourself, but you have been a great support to many others. Thank you ALL. |

Delay - For a few minutes & the urge will pass
Drink Water: Sips ...slowly
Deep Breathe : Take 3 deep breathe slowly....
Do something else - Distract yourself.....
rely on these tips and you will find a good result.

When you get the urge for a cigarett, go and brush your teeth. Sound crazy but worked for me :)
I quit cold turkey when I was up to 30 cigs/day. 12 years later I'm still not smoking except for a seldom Cuban while playing golf, poker or fishing. A smokey Single and a Cuban while playing poker with pals goes together like there is no tomorrow! ;) |

This thread died almost a year and a half ago. Probably from lack of nicotine. I wonder how Ameed is doing now though.... |
