Hi I am looking at getting my daughter a digital camera for her 14th birthday on the 15th. I just want something basic for starters, but something that still can shoot a quality picture. She wants to be able to do both just fun shots of her friends but also some art shot and thing like we do on here. Please chime in and help me make a choice. I don't want to spend over 100 on it because she is only 14 and we all know how that could turn out....lol
Please let me know, or if anyone has a great place to get cameras for a good price, I know people upgrade all the time and sell there. Let me know!! I will buy a used one if it is good!

You want an honest comment or a platitude? My daughter is 14 and she uses my 350XT and 5D Canon dSLR's without a problem. These children are very capable.... At the very least get your daughter a decent quality Canon point and shoot camera. Perhaps an A2100 IS.

Yes they are very able, but she'll probably want someting she can easily carry in pockets (or purse...) at a party. A DSLR would be too big, the A2100 IS is in fact a good choice. All depends on your budget |

I bought my 10 year old a Nikon coolpix s220. It's a point and shoot, but it has macro and is a nice little camera. I bought this one because it had a rechargeable battery. Very important--the point and shoots with AA batteries suck so many batteries, it's ridiculous.
By the way, he's jcar on this site. |

A Canon G9 or a G10 would be another good choice. Great camera that has manual settings. It can shoot RAW and it even has a hot shoe to add an external flash.

I shoot with a 100 dollar camera... a Sanyo Xacti.. 6 mp POUT and I dont think I do all bad, minus this weeks shot.. YUK! 3.7
So at this point her interest is new, and she is 14 so they change daily. lol so 100 bucks is the most I am willing to spend. I found another Sanyo Xacti VPC-S870 White 8.1 MP Digital Camera Bundle, 3x Optical Zoom & 2.4" LCD, includes (2) Eneloop NiMH Rechargeable Batteries, Wall Charger and Soft Pouch PLUS Dane-Elec 2GB SD Memory Card Value Bundle, with face detection $89, and found her a starter kit with tripod and case for 10 so...thanks everyone for your help. Someday I will be doing the BUY my dream camera and then Hubby can have mine for fishing camera...lol till then I just want her to start to capture her memories and be able to hopefully find a creative outlet that can span her life time.
Happy Shooting,
~D~ |
