On behalf of Team Suck, I'm proud to present karmat!
cosprenks asks:
Does being a member of Site Council affect on how you shoot for challenges?
I don't think so. It does effect how I post-process, though. There have been a couple of times where my editing when really near some of the "subjective" lines we face, and I've decided to back up and do something different because I didn't want to argue about that (whatever it may be) again. :)
rodfulk asks:
Which is it ? "Live and let die" or " The spy who loved me."?
Live and let die.
Your avg vote that you have given is 5.7475. What do you score below 4 ?
Really small, obviously compressed pictures will get below a four. Poorly done pictures with no connection to the challenge whatsoever, no matter how far I stretch my imagination will get a 4. I do sometimes give 3s, 2s and 1s, but rarely. I've been voting for over 7 years, so I would imagine my average vote cast is probably that whole statistical thing where it starts to settle towards the middle.
How did a team suck member make a site council member, what does it it take (for those of us that don't know)?
I'm more curious how a site council member became a suck member. :) I was on SC before Team Suck, so I'm not sure. I don't think it would matter.
meyers asks:
How do you keep up with a "photo-a-day" project?
I have a photo-a-day project??? Oh yea. That.
Taking a photo everyday typically isn't a problem. I take my camera with me everywhere I go. The problem is remembering to dump them, process them and then put them on my blog(shameless plug) -- karmashuford.wordpress.com. I'm a bit behind at the moment, though I have a lot of pictures to upload. This Spring has been crazy for me, but hopefully when things slow down, I can get it up to snuff again.
You have this image among your favorites. How does this image appeal to you?
The first thing that hits me is the bold colors and how they work together. The red shoes really stand out from the blue water. I also like the odd composition. The shoes being in the top of the frame throws it off-balanced and make it uneasy to look at. Couple all of that with a pair of obviously old shoes, and I get a sense of a pair of shoes that have seen it all -- wild dances, PTA meetings, boring grocery store trips, but have been discarded and their owner has moved on. Maybe to a calmer life, maybe to a more turbulent one -- but freer, because now she isn't wearing shoes. But, these shoes remain behind as a memory of what was, and a reminder of convention.
What new (to you) location would you like to photograph? What season/weather would your ideal location have for your shoot? What else might you look for? I think I would like to go to Australia and bug the snot out of Enzo and Judi for a while. Don't care about the seasons, and don't know enough about the locations there, but would love to use photography as an excuse to go. Anyone wanna pay me to do it?
I do love photographing Fall in the Appalachian mountains (where I live), but each of the seasons have some neat opportunities.
Wherever I go, I try to look for bold, full, deep, rich colors (preferably with a lot of contrast) and interesting *things.* (Don't usually succeed in capturing it well, but I have fun looking!)
Do you have a favorite video game you play with your kids?
My son is a bear to play with. He gets mad if you beat him, and refuses to tell me how to play most of his games. We have, however, enjoyed yetisports.com together. He gets a kick out of those.

Congrats on being FU'd! Some fun stuff in there! Have you always lived in the Appalachian mountains? I know you have some beautiful views from your house (I've seen the pictures! LOL). We need more dirt in these interviews though! So... Dark or milk chocolate? |

Great interview and your area of the country is where I would like to shoot pictures in, as I can tell from your portfolio there is beauty there. |

I have always lived in the Appalachians. Even when I went "away to college, it was Appalachian State. Currently, I live about 12 miles from where I grew up. If I go on vacation or something and it is flat, after a few days, I start feeling "exposed" and really want to get back. :)
Milk chocolate. I should like dark, and I can eat it, but the aftertaste gets me. |
