When it rains it pours. Ever since my car accident last year, I just can't catch a break.

The latest? I knocked a hole in my radiator somehow, and am now stuck with not even being able to drive it, a 7 year old I have to get from school somehow later today, 3 other kids to get around, and a $500 repair job that I don't even know how I'll begin paying.

Honestly. Can the world just give me a motherlovin' break here?

Hmm...the 7 yr old could walk to/from school with you, and surely you could always sell off a child or two, that would help pay for the rad. Then maybe adopt em back when it's paid for ;-)

It's a 12 km walk ;D

... and uphill through the snow both ways!

Can't fix radiators and I doubt he'd share chocolate if he had any, but he's kinda cute.

Aww thanks :)

I'm surrounded by cute, but they're also maddeningly independent and nerve-wracking, so an alternative source of cute is good.

Hershey's has many different varieties.....many VERY good.

There are many small Mom & Pop operations that make exquisite chocolate that you can get at fairs & farmer's markets.

And these guys are freakin' spectacular! Ghirardelli

Oh....I sold this print on canvas 24"x44" just stretched, no frame, no glass, to a nice couple tonite and helped them hang it in a lovely room.

They had me sign it!.....8>)

MAX!

Thanks, but I think I've sold maybe three decent pieces in the last three years, and this one was the biggest revenue generator at $300.

Good thing I have a real job! LOL!!!

Congrats Jeb! That's awesome!

Oh, and I bake with Ghirardelli, but I've never bought it to just eat.

All this talk of chocolate is making me crave it and I'm trying to be good and stick with the weight loss. So no chocolate for me. I'll just stand outside the window and watch you all eat :-)

The closest I'm getting right now is an extra large mocha from Tim Hortons

Oh don't be silly, even the most rigorous diets allow to treat yourself! Besides, if you deprive yourself, soon you'll be being going ballistic cause you know what you're missing...and will make you likely to really overdo it, then that leads to feelings of guilt cause you cheated...

So go ahead, have some chocolate, savour every bite of it.

sorry to go off the topic of chocolate, but i need a teeny bit of advice.

how do you deal with a client who has radically different beliefs then you?

You just do the shoot, say as little as possible, and receive payment. Unless those beliefs interfere with your ability to press the shutter button, it should really be a non-issue.

Religion or politics? In either case, once she gets going on something, you can try to change the subject. Focus on the photography (heh!), the weather, sports, TV shows - whatever. If it's REALLY going to irritate you, don't take the job.

The Pope is *still* justifying himself for joining the Hitler Youth over 60 years ago. My advice is to not work with Nazis. You don't want to support such a thing in any way, shape or form, and you don't want it to be on your professional record.

Ditto Don's advice. It has taken me years to learn that it is best to walk away from poison. Good luck.

This could come back to bite you in a very big way sometime in the distant future. You might not think that you will ever need a security clearance but more and more occupations are requiring them. Be very very careful. This is more than just having to listen to chit chat that makes you uncomfortable.

Hi Guys and Gals,
I need some advice. I have been mildly unhappy with the shots I'm getting. Thus I've been taking less and less photos. I have a trip of our lifetime coming up (Alaska). I considered getting a new camera.
But I'm beginning to believe that it is the lens rather than the camera itself. So now I'm thinking about splurging on L glass. Trouble is that I can only justify one such purchase. I am most unhappy with the Sigma 70-300. I'm just not sure what glass would be best for Alaska.
Anyone want to chime in with advice?
Jeanne

Edited to add more detail.

Borrow/rent some glass - check out the hypothesis.

The good glass will be there if and when you make the jump to another camera :)

Run, do NOT walk from this person!

The things that you do that even tacitly condone radical extremes can always come back to haunt you.

Not entirely sure what 'Nazi' refers to. The national socialist party was a mixture of nationalism and socialism, i.e. they espoused the principle of the administration of national resources at state level and making sure the benefits stayed within their national borders rather than helping out neighbours. That's a line to which most nation states today walk pretty close. Of course, what they're mostly remembered for is the extreme bigotry of their nationalism which they would be only too happy to call racism, leading to abuse and slaughter of those not considered to qualify for membership of the nation.

If she's a racist bigot, cut and run, but:

if she's a psychopath, don't go up against her - get her to throw you out and call you names or something. Document.

Get some chocolate.

I almost never ask for an opinion, but I have 3 possible FS entries. Is there anyone who would be willing to give me an opinion and then not vote on my entry?
