I'm always on the lookout for this -- last month I caught two in an exact tie (to four places, anyway), even with differing numbers of votes.

hey has anyone ever done senior pics and got paid for it?
i feel like a real ass charging what my printing place suggested i charge, so i guess id like some advice. the people ive found online are outrageous, who would pay $500 for senior photos???
anyways, if anyone has done these before it like advice if you have any to give:/ |

Do you have the suggestion in writing from the printing place?
Could you post it on a notice board at school - or an on-line one or something?
I suspect that if it were the parents who ordered the pictures, you could maybe charge some silly money. If it's your fellow students and this is sort of your contribution to the shared experience of graduating, or whatever you call it, then cover your costs and add a bit for the ones that can't pay, then make sure everyone gets a picture. Charge some slightly more serious money for extra prints. If you've publicised the prices recommended by your printers, then the penny may well drop and a few people will order just to make sure you get something for your efforts. If Peter Parker's aunt May can't afford it, maybe you could see your way to getting her a copy anyway. Don't let your left hand see what your right hand doeth (except when you're actually handling stuff).
I don't mean the notice board suggestion as a mockery of the printers, just a straight up bit of information.
I'm not much of a capitalist, but you've a long life ahead of you and sometimes you need friends as much as you need money.
Ain't that more advice than you bargained for?

Groceries, mortgage, gas, and kids' soccer took precedence.
Hubby has been laid off (again/still), so income has been very limited - I won't go into details, it's frightening.

Doesn't help much at all with the mortgage and the groceries, but you guys are heroes and I'm humbled. |

Don't be - we're not doing anything more than what so many in our area are at the moment.
We live in Oshawa, Ontario - a city built on the foundations of General Motors, which has seen massive amounts of layoffs and shut downs in the last couple of years. Long before the overall economic decline was noticeable in most places.
When faced with hard choices - families have to make priorities. A year ago, we were faced with losing our home.
Now, our home seems - for the moment - secure. But any and all extras for he and I just don't happen. We chose, instead, to invest in things like swimming lessons and summer soccer for our kids.
We're also faced with a very unplanned, poorly timed, addition to our family - a new baby coming in November. It's been a difficult thing to adjust to the thought of, but we know that, in the end, we'll be glad to have this little person as part of us.
So, all in all, it's tough - but we're managing, and will continue to do so as long as we can.
We have his parents, and my stepfather to help out should we absolutely require it. We don't want to go that route until it's completely dire though.

Heh. Just got a validation request for my FS entry. I was waiting all week during voting for one, and was a bit disappointed no one questioned it. Now it comes a week after voting ended. A little late, but it still makes me smile. :)
Lea: don't minimize what you and your husband are doing. You're there for your kids, you're there for each other. You could stop right there and be doing more good in the world than a whole lot of people. That you're doing it under serious financial constraints adds to it. |
