I am having fun! This weekend was my 15yo daughter's dance program. The new T1i performed flawlessly - I shot roughly 800 pictures Saturday night, and again tonight. Think of a darkened auditorium with various colored spots, and continuously moving subjects (they basically didn't "hold" any positions) - hand held with exposure typically in the 1/30 to 1/50 range. I put the T1i on the Sports setting and shot away - discovered the "drive" feature @ 3.5ish FPS - I could overwhelm my SD card write capacity fairly easily, but it would usually catch up in less than 30 seconds. So, in less than a week, I've easily crossed the 2000 shutter actuations mark. My biggest surprise? The camera did each evening on a single battery charge. I don't have a spare battery yet, and I didn't run out even taking over 800 shots in low light. Haven't had a chance to go through all the shots, but I am sure I got better pictures than I did last year with my Fuji.
Gotta get a lens cap leash - I keep pulling off the lens cap and dropping it on the ground... :)

LOL. I did the same with my Rebel when I first got it. I finally learned to put the cap in my pocket. |

| Thanks for the report. Just what I needed, new camera lust! Sound like it would make a good upgrade. |

| Well... I'm waiting to see some pictures! But so glad to hear you are having fun, and giving good report. Wouldn't mind hearing more. BTW, didn't realize the 500D had hit the streets. |

OK. Don't judge the camera by my first posts. Still, 4.89 for a first attempt isn't too bad for me (LT average is 4.92) - especially since this represents roughly 1/6 of the original. Entry was:
Original was:
I'm still struggling with that shallow DOF thingy - have never had to really worry about that before. Also, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to edit the T1i images.
My 2nd shot is not doing well - I'll be lucky if it pulls out a 4.5. I think I take challenge titles / descriptions too literally...

We won't blame the camera! Canon's sales figures will not suffer for your entry. |

What do you mean? They should edit just like any other images. Are you shooting in RAW?

Maybe he is trying to load a video clip into Photoshop. |

Yeah, that might cause some confusion, lol. I'm looking over the T1i's included software list, and I don't see a video editor. A Canon oversight? Seems like if you're going to sell a camera that makes video, you should at least include some sort of basic video editor. Windows Movie Maker sucks, and Adobe Premiere costs a year's salary.

I'm not shooting in RAW yet - probably should be, but with the 4G memory card, doing RAW significantly reduces the number of shots I can take. My problem with editing is that with the Fuji I could see the image improve with the various steps. With the Canon, I either see little difference, or the image looks worse. Guess I'll need to work on the subtle touch. It is also noticeably slower (the 5 - 9 M file sizes probably have a lot to do with that).
The T1i comes with a "MovieEdit" task, which launches from ZoomBrowserEX. It allows you to edit movies shot with the T1i. There are also MovieExport and MovieFrame tasks (export & frame grabber, I'm guessing).
