I have to do a magazine advertisement for myself, full page, 10.75" x 8.25". Here's my concept:

I would like to use a scenic shot of mine and create in-focus bubbles to place wherever I like, on a very blurry background.

Like this example pulled from the interweb...

Then I can stick the cutout of myself on it, standing tip-toe on one of the bubbles while photographing another bubble.

Any help, or pointer to a tutorial is much appreciated. :-)

Here's a link to a free bubble brush for photoshop, try it and see how it works for ya: //www.brusheezy.com/brush/413-Bubble-Brushes

Here's a tutorial on making simple bubbles you could use as a starting point: //www.entheosweb.com/photoshop/bubble.asp

Enjoy!

Oh, knock it out of the ballpark, Slippy! I take it the tutorial helped?

the bubble at top must not be the same
makes it boring
maybe a bubble reflection of the man himself
yeah

Actually, for the one above I used this Glass Sphere tutorial on YouTube (caution, it's LOUD).

Here's another test at a more Bubbly look, below, for which I referred to Don's tutorial on YouTube.

I'm not sure which style I prefer. I think the first one has more wow factor, which is what I'm going for. I want to catch people's eye as their flipping through, as this is an area landmark & all.

Thanks Bear. Your tutorials were good to give me an idea of how to outline the transparent bubble. A circle marquee and a sphere distortion are the other two things I used.

I think you're right. I also took an unsuccessful stab at putting my reflection in the orb I'm standing on. The main problem is, I've got other work to do today, and this is due tonight. :-/

I think this is pretty much what I'll go with. I'll have to re-do everything tonight, as I don't have access to the high-res files for the scenic shots, bummer. So I'll end up doing it during Survivor, unless I skip rowing. :-/

I get a lot of the.. "I can't believe that's your first name!" My parents chose that for me because it was the most common name the year I was born.... My brother's name is Mike, for the same reason. :-/

In the latest version, the second bubble (upper left) isn't anywhere NEAR "dimensional" enought o satisfy me; looks like exactly what it is, a 2-dimensional bubble pasted on top of a scene...

I agree. I'm going to spend more time on it tonight with my high-res photo. No sense in putting in too much effort now with the low-res. Hopefully I can get it to work. If I can't I'll have to put something else in the upper left, or nothing.

timfythetoo did an awesome version...

I bet they did that so you wouldn't stand out... I see you took care of that pretty well! ;-)

Edit for typo

Come on slippy. Everyone at DPC should know by now that bubbles reflect the background upside down. We've only had about a million examples of this entered in challenges. :P
