You've engaged, but "thoughtfully" is open to debate. May I remind you that your first post to the thread was a derogatory insult in response to why it's called Swine Flu:
Originally posted by kenskid: It only affects people who are less than 6 feet tall and weigh more than 350lbs. |
To say that this pathogen has only killed 10 people is a gross mischaracterization at best. To do so in response to an explanation of confirmed vs. suspected cases suggests a lack of comprehension. |
Shannon, for you to keep hammering on him like this seems unnecessarily aggressive to me. I think he's right to feel singled out and attacked by you, honestly. It doesn't *matter* whether his opinions are right or wrong, there's no excuse for you to be belittling him like this. You're calling the man dumb and clueless in pretty definitive terms. That's not the way to further debate, surely you understand that?

Well its not like Shannon came out and called him a moron or anything...
BUUUUUUWAHAHAHAHAH *runs out the door*
*disclaimer* the above statement was purely for entertainment purposes only and should not be taken any other way :P |

At this point I'm surprised that the thread wasn't moved to rant based on it's title alone !
Originally posted by Strikeslip: This entire thread is offensive to both Mexicans and Swine by the label of this flu. My politically correct sensitivities are causing my feelings to be hurt. I move that this thread be stricken from the record.
Bearmusic is name-calling and Shannon is misbehaving. No good can come of this evil, incorrect thread.

There you go again...insulting me. To call me a Muchas gracias is way out of line. (Joke)

Hahaha. I wasn't going to click on it, thinking it would just be a generic list of symptoms that would describe pretty much any cold or flu, but I did anyway.
And laughed. |

I've decided its all a conspiracy by the US government, lol, in order to divert people's attention from the global financial crisis. It makes sense - take an ordinary case of the flu, give it a scary name (oink oink), tell everyone its a pandemic and that the entire world needs to rush out and buy 2 weeks supply of food (instant spending of those crisis payments). Then we all follow on by rushing out and buying a year's supply of vitamins, masks and anti flu medications from government funded international drug companies. The drug companies, suppliers, supermarkets and doctors all do incredibly well out of it, then Obama comes up trumps a couple of weeks or months later by saying 'good old USA, we've beaten the epidemic, nipped it in the bud, aren't we great'. (I am smiling here, don't lynch me :-)
But really, the figures just don't stack up - the other day they closed Mexico City down because there were 300 cases of the flu. With 10 deaths on the entire country, thats not even coming close to the usual flu mortality rates, no matter how fast its moving. In one season you should be able to count at least 3000 or more cases of the flu in a major city, so why push so hard with the media?
And why panic people by likening it to the Spanish flu of nearly 100 years ago - surely they're talking as if we're all morons here, the Spanish flu happened when we had incredibly limited medical research, drugs, hospitals, drug treatments, and hygiene standards. Its simply cruel to put this in the minds of the hypochondriacs, the poor people will fall dead of imaginary diseases out of fear!
Now I sound like one of those lunatics who walks round in a beanie and dirty pants and whispers in people's ears about a conspiracy to hide the alien invasion, lol. |

The U.S government is everybody's government. Unless your Russia or China. There is no conspiracy, only propoganda!
There are media wars going on right now, all over the world as a matter of fact. The mainstream media is faced with low ratings, tedious stories, nothing but news we shouldn't really care about. The Internet and alternative media sites have grown in popularity, and mainstream media knows it. Soon enough, they will have to adapt. I haven't purchased a newspaper in many years.

BTW, has Shannon mentioned to you that antibiotics have no effect on the flu virus? I thought you might have missed it. |

I'm not worried. Regular, boring old flu kills loads of people every year and there's no fuss caused over that. |

My friend had said that he hadn't been feeling well but she thought he just had allergies because he is normally very healthy. Well, the last couple days he has started having constant diarrhea, a sore throat and a 102 fever. And did I mention that his dad came back from Mexico last week? Eek! So she said "we can still make it if you leave right now" and I was like "ummmm, nooo, that's ok. go to the Dr." The doc took a test sample and gave him a shot of antibiotics which he was none too happy about.
here's some pics of him. He's probably just got a regular flu, but wish him well please!

He is now a "probable case" but they wont have solid test results back until later this week. *sigh* |

We got a phone call this morning, it seems that Robin, a friend of my wife's from high school days died in San Diego. She had been training for triathlons four years ago when she found out she had pulmonary hypertension, and when the H1N1 hit the family last week it swamped her ability to keep her blood oxygenated. She leaves behind her husband and two high school aged sons. |
