This is lunacy. Influenza doesn't care if you're legal or not, and at this point you're far more likely to catch the virus from someone already in the U.S. |

1 in the U.S., 9 in Mexico, however it's suspected of killing hundreds already. The difference is that the former numbers have been confirmed and the latter have not. |

Let me rephrase. Only one confirmed death of a mexican baby due to the virus. I read now though that it has risen to 12 but still.
Because it´s jumping from human to human it evolves quicker and so they are just trying to catch up and find a vaccine which if THEY are as smart as they say they are, theyll find in no time. i might regret saying that

I saw a photo on cnn of people lying on the beach with masks on. this is bull. 250,000 people die every year of normal flu and 7000 alone in mexico. One, one single infant has died of this swine flu.
I think it is beig blown way out of proportion. Just wash your hands and dont snezze on people for gods sake. |
We don't need to overreact but we should be cautious. If everyone washed their hands and coughed away from people that would surely slow the spread, but not everyone's going to do that.
In the last 24 hrs the number of documented cases in the US went up by 36%. Extrapolate that over a few weeks and then it's something to get excited about. |

So one person from Mexico died here in the US..according to news...and 9 people died in Mexico? Is that right? Why has this not killed anyone else ? Seems strange or maybe it has but we don't know yet?

Was Biden right yesterday? Is it easier to catch the virus in a subway or aircraft than in an "open" area? |

How is it remotely the same? Somebody who's been in the US for 20 years is suddenly a threat for contagion just because of the country they originally came from?? wtf.... | |
And is there any way to tell if that white guy behind you in the supermarket line, who just happened to cough all over you, has just returned from a vacation south of the border? Hell, why not just lock your doors and avoid everyone? It would make far more sense than targetting an entire ethnic group. |

It makes sense that any confined space with lots of bodies sharing air would pose a higher risk than being in the great outdoors alone.
Look at it this way;
Take a handful of houseflies. Release one in a crowded subway car, one in a full plane, one in a classroom, one in an average shopping mall and one in a public park. Which locations would have the greatest odds of the fly landing on a person?

No. Pay attention: hundreds have died, but only one of those cases in the U.S. and 9 or so in Mexico have so far been confirmed to be from Swine Flu. Maybe that'll be the total extent of it, or maybe further tests will show that many more earlier deaths were actually attributed to H1N1. Heck, we might even discover that the virus first appeared in another country last year and they just thought it was "regular" flu. |

Amazing...I actually felt he was right on target...then the "fix" started coming in from other departments....LOL..the one time me and Biden agree and it is taken away from him.

The advice, while difficult to impliment, is not completely crazy. There is at least a logical process behind it. Truth is, the closer you are to the American/Mexican border, the more likely your exposure, although air travel also contributes. With that in mind, you probably raise your risk meeting someone who has just come from Mexico (your "illegal alien") than meeting someone who has just come from Canada. How much do you raise your risk? Probably not a ton, but it does go up.
So while I can't agree that the advice is practical and should be followed, I also think some of the backlash here is purely because it's coming from a right-wing nutjob.
Joe Biden likely gave some decent advice, but because it can lead to panic if it's viewed as the policy of our leaders he was slapped down. That's Joe. I think sometimes he just speaks his heart and damn the politics and position. If I were in New York and things started spreading, the Subway would be the first place I'd avoid and I'd recommend my family avoid it as well.

I just wish people would behave responsibly, with this and any illness. If you're sick, stay home. If you're an employer, don't hassle your staff for staying home. If you're not sick, don't take advantage of your employer by lying and staying home. If your kids are sick, don't send them to school. I know this won't stop this flu, since it's contagious before symptoms start but it might slow the spread and give needed time for coming up with vaccines and strategies for dealing with it.

Actually (and I know you might glare at me ferociously for saying so), a simple "You're right, that was wrong of me, I'm sorry" would have done wonders :)
ETA: Yes, I know you did say "sorry", but what I mean is, that when you follow it up with an excuse, it tends to seem less sincere. Is what I'm getting at. I think.
Maybe.
Commence glaring ferociously.

I read it correctly and all of it...your 10th word was suspected that's why I just mentioned the 1 here and 9 in Mexico quote.
