My daughter got married almost two years ago. Ever since then, I have been toying with the idea of moving my home office from the smallest room into her vacated bedroom (which has since been used for a guest room and my dressing room.) I work from home and usually spend several hours a day in this room.

I found a terrific deal on some nice office furniture on Craig's List and that prompted me to put my idea into reality. It's amazing how one home chore can quickly snowball into many! I decided not to move the office furniture upstairs until I had repainted and readied both rooms (the old office, which would now be the guest room, and the new office.) Well, two months later with the new office furniture sitting in my livingroom - I decided I couldn't wait any more.

My old computer desk was going to my 14 yr. old daughter. So Saturday I had help her clean up her room and reconfigure her furniture and unhook all her computer stuff. Then I had to unhook all my computer goodies, clean off my desk and move it into her room. Rehook all her things. Next, I had to move the dresser out of the old guest room into the old office, take apart the bed (which is now just leaning against the wall) roll up the room size area rug (which is too large for the new guest room) and get ready to move office suite up the stairs - which, oh by the way, has a stair lift on it for my mother in law who lives with us.

We had an executive desk with hutch, glass enclosed bookcase and lateral file to move. Decided that the wiser thing to do would be to take the desk mostly apart for the move. It's dark wood and I didn't want it getting all scratched up. Took desk apart, moved the items up stairs, put desk back together. Then we carried up the hutch, file and book case. Whew!

Next was reconnecting all my goodies and figuring out how to best organize. It looks so cool and so much better than my old desk! That desk was functional, but wires were a mess!

So the hard part is now done. I still have to switch over closet stuff, accessories and I have nice leather arm chair and ottoman in my family room that I'll be moving into the office as well. I have decided to do the office in a Cincinnati Reds theme. :) Maybe not typical for a lady's office, but what can I say? I'm a fan.

My last big purchase was today. I went out and bought a new office / computer chair. Oh my goodness. What a difference! This one is so comfy and I have so say very cool looking. I had always just used cheapie, buy-at-yard-sales chairs before.

The nice thing also about the bigger office is that I will have room for my photography equipment here - which has been in the diningroom for the last couple of years. Not big enough for a studio, but at least designated space for organization and storage.

It's been a lot of work, with more left to do, but well worth it! Just wanted to share my excitement. :)

Congrats on the new space, my mom did the exact same thing after I moved out 5 years ago. It's always nice to get a fresh way to look at things!

Enjoy your new office! How exciting - when my daughter goes away to college we have a big room switch we are planning for but certainly not looking forward to the process but it will be worth the work.

Congrats on your office! Sounds like you have a nice area to get some work done.

My old bedroom at my parent's house is still essentially the same as it has been since I moved out 4 years ago. Of course, I still go home all the time on weekends because I still have a large group of friends around there, the beaches are nicer than where I am now, and I like the atmosphere and mix of people better. Also, it's nice to see the parents. I'm sure if I wasn't around so much, my mom would've turned it into something by now, though.
