I have always respected the artistic merit of photos by, and recognized by posthumous and other members of 'Team Suck'. I think it would be nice to have a challenge where participants try to create a photograph that would be worthy of a posthumous ribbon. It would be a free study, but the goal would be photographs that are out of the box, artistic and unique.

Unless I'm missing something here isn't this a bit like saying lets have a challenge where participants try to create an image that would be worthy of a Blue, Red or Yellow ribbon.

Now I appreciate that some people aren't all that interested in ribbons and that's fair enough, but surely for most of us here we are doing the best we can and are shooting for a ribbon.

Therefore what is it that you are suggesting we do that is different for this challenge exactly?

I think he wants a formal challenge that rewards the kind of OOTB photography that usually only appeals to a narrow crowd. The problem here is that a challenge that is voted on by everyone will have all the usual people winning, because the shots with the most broad appeal and wow factor always win.

I also think the idea is to some extent a little oxymoronic. I do like the concept though, and many others do, which is why these have been run as side challenges now and then.

Sort of... What I am hoping for is essentially an open challenge where the voter intentionally tries to look for OOTB thinking, and rewards that with high votes, rather than voting the typical 'eye candy' photos high.

While the idea is noble, I have a hard time believing that the typical voter will be able to do this.

We will never know unless we try it. I have faith in the voters :)
